O/T remember the shaw cross game : Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:22 pm
I am absolutely astounded, to have downloaded my virgin media emails tonight, to find this sitting in my inbox, unread to myself and from myself!

its the report i sent to league weekly, it obviously got printed, why and how the hell has it suddenly just been sent to me?

Any techies out there, able to offer an explanation. anyway heres the report....

LAKERS SURVIVE SHARKS SCARE
Doncaster Lakers (18) 34 Shaw Cross Sharks (4) 18
Rob Clayton Reports from a Cold and Blustery Belle Vue

What a tremendous fighting spirit the Dewsbury amateurs showed, when looking down and out at half time, they produced a spirited fightback to scare their league one rivals who put sixty Batley last weekend.

Sharks Coach Mick Turner was full of praise at his sides showing, “I am proud of them all, I was disappointed we let in one or two tries early one because I thought the scores flattered the Lakers”

“The good thing is we have got no major injuries and we can now concentrate on the league. We’ve achieved our aim of consolidating our position in the Premier Division and we are still in the National Cup”

“We showed a lot of spirit today and I think we scored the more entertaining tries on the day and I would like to thank the tremendous support from Shaw Cross”

The Lakers Coach Tony Miller was full of admiration for the Sharks performance, but was critical of the Referee’s performance, “he made some very strange decisions and it seems to be the norm now that Referees think spectators have paid their money to watch him blow his whistle, it was too stop, start and we couldn’t build any momentum”

“We started well but were very patchy, Handford played well as did the backs, but a few players didn’t perform to the standard they set themselves last week. I’d like to give credit to Shaw Cross they played the simple game and did their club proud today”

It looked as if the home side had got off to a flying start within two minutes, when Richard Newlove got over the whitewash, but the try was ruled out for offside.

The Lakers did take the lead in the 5th minute with Dean Colton grabbing the opener. Two penalties gave the Lakers good field position and the visitors were made to pay for their early ill-discipline. 4-0 as the conversion was missed.

Holroyd who has been impressive in the early stages of the 2006 campaign made a break and as he drew in the Sharks fullback he got the ball out to his own fullback Shad Royston who scored. 17 minutes gone, 10-0 as Holroyd tagged the conversion.

Gareth Handford grabbed a 24th minute try in the corner to make it 14-0 and at this stage a rout looked more and more likely. Credit to Shaw Cross as they immediately hit back with a try from Danny Smith.

The Lakers had the last laugh of the opening half when Michael Martinez went over from close range to make it 18-4 at the break.

The Lakers knew they needed to score first, and when Shad Royston scored from close range in the 43rd minute and Holroyd converted to make it 24-4 it all appeared to be going to plan for the National League One outfit.

But Shaw Cross battled, and they hit a real purple patch when they scored the games next three tries to the delight of the healthy following from Shaw Cross.

Good passing created space for Craig Lillies to score in the 54th minute, and then Jamie Spence grabbed the best try of the afternoon in the 56th minute, with Halloran and Colloby linking up well in the build up. Again the conversion missed, 24-12 to the Lakers.

Mick Colloby grabbed a 65th minute try when he darted through a tiny gap in the lakers defence, Walker converted to make it 24-18, the Lakers were looking shell shocked, for the amateur side, game on.

Pete Green eased the home sides nerves and the rescued the game for the lakers with his 68th minute try to make it 28-18. Shaw Cross heads obviously dropped as they had had such a roll, but they still gamely battled.

Handford grabbed the last try of the afternoon from close range in the 74th minute with Holroyd converting. 34-18 but a very respectable performance from the amateurs.
