Eagles Groundless and Doncasters pitch is being reseeded! : Fri May 20, 2011 9:38 am
Apparently the Doncaster ground is unavailable for the homeless Eagles on june 5th as pitch being reseeded. Anyway read the pasted article below from the star website. Obviously the reason sheff cant play at donny is because we are at home, got me wondering, do you think it would be a good or a bad thing to look into having a south yorkshire double header, ie both games straight after each other. split the gate receipts two ways between eagles and dons. SHEFFIELD Eagles has been plunged into a major row over a game the club says it can’t play.
The Eagles are due to play a home game against Dewsbury Rams on Sunday June 5 but there isn’t a stadium available in the city.
Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane, where the Eagles are playing eight games this season, and their old home Don Valley Stadium are ruled out for pitch reseeding.
Dewsbury have been asked to switch the game to another date but have refused and pleas to the Rugby League have not resolved the deadlock.
“The game will not be played on the fifth of June because we haven’t got a ground. What do we do? Play it on a car park?” said coach Mark Aston.
“I’m not bothered what Dewsbury say you can’t play if you haven’t got a ground. We are not going to take it out of Sheffield - it’s a home game.”
Aston and general manager Simon Proctor have been trying to reschedule the game since before the fixtures were released in February.
They wanted Dewsbury to reverse the fixtures. That would have seen the Rams coming to Bramall Lane in April and the return at Dewsbury next month.
Dewsbury refused and when the teams met at the Tetley Stadium, on Sunday 17 April, the Eagles won 36-12.
Attempts to move the game to other local grounds have also failed as Doncaster, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield are all reseeding.
Aston is determined not to let the dispute interfere with his team’s preparation for the trip to Halifax on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.
