Moorends Marauders 44 - Morley Borough 16Moorends took to the field looking to get back to winning ways and they did just that.
From the very start the Marauders were dominant in all facets of the game. The pack were making inroads with every carry - prop Kev Lake, back row Ian 'Bobby' Evans and loose forward Danny Hornsby looked threatening with every touch of the ball.
Skipper Dean Armstrong led the team around the pack with authority and darted over the line for the game's first score. Armstrong linked well with his half backs and sent stand-off Shaun Roberts over for a score soon after his own.
Moorends were in control but the game went out of Morley's sights with the introduction of Shaun Carver off the bench. Carver took his opportunity well bursting on to a short ball to go in for the score and within 10 minutes he'd notched his second of the game.
Winger Adam Pickles was on the end of a well worked try for the next score then Carver took his chance to grab his hat-trick. Morley were really in trouble and the Marauders backs in Tom Rose and Dave Chowings ran in scores to finish them off. Ryan Rafferty had a good day with the boot knocking over 6 out of 8 conversions.
Bentley Good Companions 0 - Fryston Warriors 50
Toll bar couldn't raise a team and called the game off against Bentley Good Companions. The Companions therefore played league leaders and defending champions Fryston Warriors of Castleford.
Bentley knew it was going to be a tough match to take on at such short notice but didn't expect to lose 50-0. Fryston looked to former Dons half back Andy Speake to guide them around the park and he did with some ease.
Fryston's backs were sharp and with Speake finding gaps in the Companions defence the tries soon followed. Former Dons prop Craig Jones ran the ball well with his partner in crime Dons new signing Mark Castle. Both props worked tirelessly and created a great platform for Fryston to attack from.
Bentley's pack held their own with great performances from big Danny Royle, Chris Hemmings and Lyndon Staley. Unfortunately the Companions backs couldn't live with their counterparts and Fryston ran out easy winners.
Illingworth Reserves 10 - Moorends Marauders Reserves 14
Moorends travelled to Halifax to play expansive rugby utilising their young speedy backs but what confronted them on arrival tore their game plan to bits.
With rain pouring down from the moment they got there and the pitch covered in mud it was obvious that it wasn't a day for fast flowing open rugby league.
Moorends adapted their game plan well and the forwards in Mark Aveyard, Shane Lake, and Phil Cuttle ran well into the Illingworth half. But it was veteran prop Ernie Lake who put in the man of the match performance bursting on to two short passes, one from hooker Mark Norris and the other from Shane Lake to score a brace.
Moorends were winning 8-4 until the last 5 minutes of the game when a high bomb from the Illingworth stand-off was fumbled which allowed the home team's centre to pounce on the ball under the sticks. With the conversion being successful the Marauders trailed 10-8 with only 3 minutes left on the clock.
On the Marauders last set of the game big Ernie once again found himself with ball in hand, and whilst attracting 3 defenders he slipped the ball to scrum half Adam Lloyd to race in for the final score with Mark Norris adding the extras.
