League One clubs will be required to announce their match day squads by 12 o'clock midday, two days before a game. As we play most of out matches on Sundays, the announcements will have to be made by midday Friday. The squad announced will consist of 21 players. Should a player play in a game after not being declared in the original squad (with the exception of DR players being recalled by their parent club) a team will lose one of their eight interchanges. As I understand it 21 players don't need to be named as such. As long as no player not named is in the 17. Not a problem.

Won't please everyone but brings a degree of professionalism in and discourages gamesmanship. Just my opinion.

Why does it Rob , you could name anyone in a 21 as you could in a 19. So long as they are signed on , they could be injured or not training any more.

I remember an ex centre who wasn't being picked ,his name appeared in a published 19 main squad saying that is the first I knew that .

Should a coach only have 19 fit players, I would suggest they could name two first team regulars who aren't fit, who definitely won't play, but that would keep the opposition guessing!

Very good point. Either way 21 is plenty to pick from.

I'm not sure whether teams need to publish these, or just declare them to the RFL, as has been the case previously

On reflection, if we've only got a squad of 23/24/25 players, naming 21 doesn't narrow the field down all that much.

Keeping fans informed is important though otherwise we feel disconnected. I hope clubs have to make their squads public, not just declare them to the RFL.
