Not good enough for promotion no matter what side we have cobbled together !

On paper this was our worst result since we got knocked out of the Challenge Cup by an amateur side a few years back.

There were extenuating circumstances in that we had a disjointed team that hardly knew each other.

Nevertheless, it's hard not to feel disappointed that we couldn't beat a team that has only won one of its last 58 league matches. We did concede 24 points when we played them at home earlier this season which I believe highlighted the defensive weaknesses we've had all year.

The Dons' decline in fortunes has been rapid. We seemed to peak very early in the season. Forward momentum has swiftly turned into a downward spiral.

Whilst it's hard to ignore what's been happening of late, it's still possible that we could get our act together for when it really matters, although any further steps backward will make a 'bounce back' harder.

We need to get some confidence back at Rochdale next weekend or else it'll seem as though we've got a mountain to climb at home to Barrow the week after; not forgetting it's Workington at home the following week.

Further home games against Coventry and Keighley could also look rather challenging if we don't improve in the mean time.

I don't think it's quite the end of the road for this season yet but we must see an upturn in our performances over the next three games. We don't necessarily have to beat Barrow and Workington but we must show that we can at least be competitive against them if we are to be seen as a serious threat in the play-offs.

At our very best, we're not far behind the top teams in this league but we're certainly way off the pace at the moment.

Well we don't have to play Whitehaven which is a bonus....we are shot below the waterline and poop above it.....
Just accept it we have been found lacking ....the players have tried, of course they have...a great set of lads.
The confidence has gone and the regular strong side replaced by a wedge of misfits.
There is no way back now....

is the proposed League restructure having an affect and will we have a club in the future? I said on another thread that the Dons CEO given his connections must be aware of what is being planned. A statement from him would help.

Wilf, I think the issues are more Covid-related than anything else at the moment but we're never kept in the loop so we're just left guessing.

I suspect Carl has got some inside knowledge on the proposed restructure but his hands will no doubt be tied and he won't be able to divulge anything.

If the proposals for 2023 are rubber stamped with 10 teams in Super League, 10 teams in the Championship, that would leave 16 teams in League One.

If we got promoted this season, we would have to finish in the top 6 of a 12 team Championship next year as the bottom six will be back down to League One in 2023.

With six teams coming down from the Championship, would there be any promotion from our league at the end of next season? There may be nothing to play for.

The RFL is a rudderless ship. How can they expect inward investment at clubs when the struture has no stability?

If there is no central funding for League One clubs in 2023, a number of the 16 teams in the league probably wouldn't survive. Should all 16 survive, we could have a 30 game season. Is a 30 game season realistic? And how many of the 15 home games would have to be played away from the Keepmoat due to the pitch being closed?

Uncertainty is never good for any business or sport but it seems like it's the RFLs speciality!

Thank you DM some good points there. If the restructure comes off a lot of clubs are going to be between a rock and hard place and the game as we know it will be lost.

I suppose it just mirrors what is going off in the World at present that the elites will flourish and sod every body else.

Yes, the poor always have to be subservient to make sure the rich stay rich... it's sickening really.

We have had some ups & downs over the years but things seem very downbeat .
I think Carl has to something about the communication issues & Richard has to do something about on field issues.

Next week at Rochdale is a big match.
