RFL Structure : Tue Jul 05, 2022 12:08 pm

Ralph Rimmer has announced there will be no changes to the league structure in 2023... So far so good... he says rugby league needs stability... But change is likely when the Sky deal ends in 2023. The possibility of two leagues of ten seems to still be on the table with teams outside the 'twenty' getting dumped. When does 'stability' mean 'no stability'? When the RFL is involved! Businesses need to be able to plan several years ahead, not just for the next 18 months. The RFL is a rudderless ship. We need a ten year plan for the game now, not next year! Championship and League One clubs need to know what is at stake in 2023 before they start signing players in September 2022, not be told next February (or whenever) that League One won't exist in 2023 and that there's no future for Championship clubs if they don't finish in the top eight of that division. Maybe, there is a future for all current clubs and I'm worrying unduly but without clarity all clubs will be living in fear. |
