Panthers v Workington 13/6/10 : Sun Jun 13, 2010 4:08 pm
panthers 24-10 Workington

I suppose a wins a win and it was never going to be an expansive game given the conditions, however the first half was dire and obvious that a fair few players just weren't interested, ball retention was poor, no aggression in attack or defence, no-one working for each other, well I say no-one there were a few exceptions but on the whole it was poor.
Enter MC and his half time team talk, don't know what he said but he turned them around in the second half, a lot more enthusiasm and effort was put in and panthers started showing what they were capable of, some very good breaks and some enterprisng attack at times, also was great to see how well the lads worked for each other in defence in the second half, had a lot of pressure on our line and muscled up time and time again, key to our turn in fortune, at least the fight isnt gone altogether, makes the hunslet game next week more interesting, if the lads show up as they can, I can see a win then the pressure is really on hunslet and oldham.

On a side note, was told at the game that casey maybury has left the club, a real shame as he is an exciting talent, wish him the best in future.

Top 3 for today 1) clough, superb all game, top work ethic and led by example
2) Forber, against his former team and obviously wanted to prove something as he was full of fire and was very dangerous throughout
3) Adam Thomas, our one decent forward in first half, made great yards and put some bonecrunching shots in defence, was one of the few that looked capable of breaking the town defence, good second half stint defensively too.

Did you leave early? It finished 24-10

I agree with your assessment though pretty much. Good goal line defensive effort 2nd half

I was told Mayberry was injured and would be back next week!

Leather, Ballard and Holland could all be out for the season through injury, on the upside Dave Best should be back next week or the week after.

Adam Thomas was a major plus yesterday, I also thought Tom Woodcock did very well in testing conditions for a winger.

The 2nd half was a huge improvement, I believe MC read the riot act at HT (and rightly so, the first half was dire, the lack of commitment and passion shown by some was alarming). I think this shows once and for all why we must keep Crompton above anything else.

Hunslet will be hurting after their loss at Rochdale yesterday, it'll be tough next weekm, but with one or two bodies back who knows, we could just do it if our heads are on the job.

Seems Mayberry has signed for Swinton - the only surprise being that the Lions can afford him!

Fairhurst has gone to Rochdale, bloody good luck to the lad.

Marsh doesn't look like he'll be back, but as he's not played yet that's no great loss.

As yet, that appears to be it.

Doesnt really matter about the performance yesterday i think it was all about getting a win on the board and getting some confidence back. Not the best game in the world or the best performance but the grit and determination we showed in the second half was awesome. Casey has gone to swinton,Glad to see sticking by a player when he is injured means nothing. Anyway we only want players who want to be at the club, good to see andy hobson and jonny leather at the game yesterday even though they were banned/injured. Hunslet next week, as long as the team give 100% we can`t ask any more. Glad to see MC still here. Off field something may be in the pipeline but should see this time next week

Yeah pete had rochdale and swinton interested him in. Top bloke and be a big miss in the pack at the panthers.

He did OK, very rarely lets you down does DW, just a shame he doesn't have Mayberry's pace!

It seems Casey mayberry was on holiday(!?!) and is still with the club.

Did anyone who spoke to Hobbo or John chadwick get any extra info out of them or anything?

I spoke to leather, he said he was due in hospital Monday but it didn't feel good at all and suggested his season is over. And he'd know about how sorghum knees feel. Anyone know anything new or more optimistic?
