great results for the city of hull yesterday, onwards and upwards me thinks, the lad on the wing for you oakes? when he signed for you great things where expected has he had a bad injury? wasn't he supposed to be lightning quick ? For me a fit Ryan Shaw should keep Oakes out of the team 99 times out of 100. I've never got the hype about him and his performance in the Derby was nothing short of embarrassing (unfortunately he wasn't the only one), we'd have been better playing with 12. The only thing you could possibly say is that he adds a bit more weight to the return sets but that's where it ends for me.

Without writing him off, it’s a big step up from being good as a youngster against other youngsters to being good against men in SL. I think, on both sides of the RL divide in Hull there’s almost a desperation for good kids to come through. So they’re overhyped before they’ve had any meaningful senior game time, and then there’s excessive disappointment when they struggle initially.

He’s had a lot of time to acclimatise to full time rugby tho MR. He was bought as an outstanding prospect, and was given plenty of academy games and duel reg games and nurtured for a few years in the correct way, and not pressured to make an immediate impact like some kids are. Oakes must be disappointed in himself, because the rugby player everyone saw in him just isn’t there anymore.

When Oakes left the Wakefield Academy for Hull KR he was highly rated and Wakefield were disappointed. He may have been outstanding as a kid but has not developed to be good enough for top level. It's a strange game at times we have players from our academy that were looked at as just players fit for Wakey. Great to see a good number are coming good somebody somewhere has an eye for raw talent at Wakey everyone has eyes when a kid is deemed outstanding it's a funny old game at times!
