No Dave K. Why would we want to sign potential prospects, just because it doesn't always work out?
Shaw has never been a prospect at Rovers by the way, he was already a player. What was open to debate and still is, is whether he'll ever be a decent player. For me, no, he's not good enough, he doesn't have enough searing pace to make up for his defects in positional defence, particularly in holding a line. To cut him some slack, centre has been an awful position for us in terms of defence for a long, long time.
Oakes needs a step back, Wallis is still a work in progress.
What we clearly need is a load of Hull fans to tell us who to recruit and how to run the club.
A little bit touchy and if you don't want input from other fans, then maybe the secret forum is the place for you?
I asked a question if that is what you need, Shaw was 22 when he signed so the same age as Ryan and he is unproven, so is that what you need, I would have thought with the Oakes, Wallis and Shaw you would want a more proven winger, but if you are happy with that and the clubs wants to stockpile young wingers then fair enough. Rovers and Sheens seem to be doing well managing your cap, so nothing to worry about.

We need a mix of different things, primarily better players who can play more games. A promising and versatile (centre, fullback or wing according to Wikipedia) player from the championship could be part of that mix, depending on who else we recruit and retain. And if he is good at this higher level.
After the last few years, there are bound to be questions about our recruitment, from Rovers fans more than anybody. However, if we brought in a veteran from the NRL there’d be somebody else telling us to bring through our own or look in the championship. It’s fine that you and that hypothetical other person have different views but I think that Rovers fans perhaps feel that fans of other clubs are quick to pick fault, then aren’t around on the days when we do something they might approve of - that devil’s advocacy tendency, I suppose. Sometimes there’s a element of faux-concern that is in some ways more galling than the outright trolling. You remember that Harry Enfield character ‘I do not believe you wanted to do that’?
when we used to have a better team we got ghouled about going ‘pop’, and now we are mocked for a focus on off-field sustainability and losing a lot. We can’t see to win - and therefore shouldn’t care I suppose.

At least there English Dave I know how much it bothers you about wasting quota space on wingers

Quota for key players, although it's still not working is it?
No that’s the disappointing thing. In previous recent SL seasons, while hoping for the best, the potential problems were clear even in prospect. See ‘mobile pack’.
While I didn’t expect us to necessarily do any better than hang around mid-table and there was no guarantee of even that, we did seem to have a better balanced squad. Fewer players, but a handful of forwards with a bit of size, and a new hb coming off a hot season. Lunt and Quinlan being out was a concern... until our props started dropping like flies, and everything fell to pieces, pushing that into the background.
So it isn’t working, but it is hard to tell how well it would work under slightly more normal circumstances. It’s like trying to judge the aerodynamic performance of a F1 car fitted with the motor from an electric toothbrush. You could probably do that in a wind tunnel, but hopefully you know what I mean.
With rumours about Sheens future swirling, it makes that decision really tricky. And obviously that relates back to recruitment and who is doing it.

Need to sort a coach out, Lui I decent signing, upgrade on what you have IMO. Although offset slightly by the rumoured loss of Atkin.
I'm sure I've read you have no quota spots as it stands for me Lui, so one of the contracted Quota (Not no fed) will have to leave, any ideas?

No, I don’t keep track of it so much now.
Our seven non-fed must be Vaivai, Masoe, Garbutt, Drinkwater, Linnett, Quinlan and Weller Hauraki. I don’t know which have EU or Kolpak passports and which are full quota. In terms of being off contract, I know Drinkwater is but I don’t think any of the others are, off the top of my head.
It all needs sorting by management but as fan my attention is on our fight against relegation for now.
I don’t know Dave when we had Ken Sio and Josh Mantallato on the wings they where well worth the quota spots
Wernt they your wingers the year you went down, I'm not saying they were bad players but having two quota wingers when you needed quality players in other positions is a waste IMO.
