Suprised Maguire has been made your head of recruitment, after JP I would have thought you would have gone in a different direction. (Looking at Leeds squad)
Respected as a player just like JP but has he experienced in overseas unless of course your going to a home grown team which he has been around long enough to know the market. Mind you saying that we gave Ellis the job and that didnt work out too good either.
Time will tell as they say.
I’m not completely clear on his role and where it leaves our head coach (either Sheens or a new coach). I’ve seen it suggested that it’ll maybe be more an administrative role, taking on responsibilities from Mike Smith (cap management and contracts), but given McGuire’s area of expertise and his interview on HullKRTV, I think it has to be more about identifying and courting talent.
The Peacock thing came immediately to mind. The ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL thing imo is that McGuire sees this as being about improving Hull KR’s first team in the immediate future, when he assumes his new duties (or at least in the short-term), and not primarily an opportunity to prove a point about untapped young British talent.
Speculating, it suggests to me that Sheens is going at the end of this season or at most staying one more year. If it is to support a transition it makes most sense imo. I’d guess the scale of his input after the arrival of a new coach will depend on that coach.
