The obvious choice is Webbo (not councillor Webster) simply because of his close freindship with Rovers Board.

Personally, I would go for Darryl Powell to take on the task. The club needs a hard task master. I know Darryl really well and he fits this stereotype like a glove.
Why would Powell leave Cas for a smaller/similar club? .Webster & his brother for me, if not MacNamara if he would come home (Bondi or Hornsea you choose). Just don't take a punt on a prospect.

First choice would be Powell, but I dont think it would happen, morgan, but the same with him,but would be happy enough with james webster,a rovers legend and wakey will have been a decent learning curve for him.A very shrewd man who has rovers at heart.

With our tendency to promote from within and do things on the cheap, I have got a feeling we may offer it to Campese until the end of the season and see how it goes. Like we did with Webbo.

With the injuries you've got to key players and the squad that has been assembled the best coach in the world struggle to get in the top 8. If Chester had an input into recruitment then he deserved to be sacked. The question is what coach would take the job having to work with your squad. He will be on a hiding to nothing.

Not for me. he was a good player for Rovers and did a decent stand in job as coach at Rovers but he is not the man for the long term in my opinion.
I believe it could be another Chris Chester in the making and we cannot keep on going from pillar to post, we have to get it right this time even if it means paying that little extra.
At the end of the day and as the saying goes....you only get what you pay for.

That just ain't going to happen.

I feel for Chester and thought it might happen next week rather than this but it is the right decision for both your club and Chester himself. He sounded likem it was all too much for him after the match.

So who will replace him? Justin Morgan has just upped sticks and taken the assistants role at New Zealand Warriors so i doubt he would move back to Hull KR again at this point. There is always the old mantra of 'never go back'.

James Webster? Was seen to be out of his depth at Wakefield and is not the man right now. He needs to be an assistants to an experienced coach for a while again before he'll be ready again.

Paul Rowley is an option but not what you need right now imho. The same goes for Richard Marshall at Halifax despite his success at turning them around, i think a little more experience is required at present.

Glenn Morrison would possibly be the best pick from the championship, he has the experience of more than 200 NRL and 100 SL games behind him and 3 years coaching at Dewsbury. But again is untried as a coach at the top level.

Steve McNamara may fancy it now his England commitments are no more but with the NRL season kicking off next week the Roosters may not be willing to release him immediately. Given his connection to Jamie Peacock this could mean Brian Noble being a contender for a short term role until the man they want becomes available.

If the club want to throw some money at the role then Geoff Toovey and Ivan Cleary are both available in Australia and have had decent coaching careers so far. Whether they fancy a spell over here is another matter but would be coup for sure.

A couple of outsiders with plenty of experience but have been out of coaching for a couple of years and have experience over here could be Daniel Anderson and Matthew Elliott. That tactic has helped at Wakey with Brian Smith and the improvements are slowly coming through to see now.

One thing for sure i would expect that, after the last two incumbents, your board of directors must surely realise that an experienced pair of hands is needed this time. Trying to do it on the cheap will cost a lot more in the long run.

Re: Chesters Gone : Wed Feb 24, 2016 11:23 am
Here’s five potential candidates.

Willie Poching
Could Poching himself be a realistic bet for the next Robins coach? Expect to know more after this weekend’s game against the Saints, but Poching could be a smart choice if Hull KR opt for the ‘boot room policy’, and decide to promote from within. He comes highly regarded in the game having spent time as an assistant at both Warrington and Hull KR – and could well be ready for the step up to a senior role in the wake of Chester being stood down by the club on Wednesday.

James Webster
With Chester a former Hull KR player who served the club with distinction, might the Robins think about going down the same route again and putting a former stalwart of the club in charge as head coach? James Webster is currently working with the City of Hull Academy, which gives him somewhat of a foot in the door in regards to being aware of the club’s playing squad. He was a fantastic servant for KR as a player – and after leaving Wakefield last summer, could he be ready to step back into Super League coaching?

Francis Cummins
Another coach who has recently left his job is Francis Cummins, who was working in rugby union with Yorkshire Carnegie of late. He did a good job in difficult circumstances at Bradford before being replaced by James Lowes, and he hasn’t had a coaching job in the 13-man code since.

Paul Rowley
Quite an obvious one, this – and although there are no odds floating around from the bookmakers just yet, you would expect Paul Rowley to be installed as one of the favourites when they do materialise. The job he did at Leigh was absolutely sensational, and Rowley is certainly ready for a step up into the big time. Hull KR would surely be interested in Rowley if the feeling was mutual, and he could be a fantastic appointment for the club.

Glenn Morrison
On the theme of Championship coaches who are impressing in recent years, Dewsbury’s Glenn Morrison is certainly one of the most highly-regarded coaches in the British game at the moment. Morrison has done a fine job with the Rams, and was one of the heavy favourites to get the Wakefield job last year before Brian Smith was appointed. Could he be ready for a step up into a full-time environment with Hull KR?

Going for a big name i see

If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.

Re: Chesters Gone : Wed Feb 24, 2016 12:19 pm
To me, Chezzies sacking was a foregone conclusion after I heard the end of match boos from the East Stand and North Stand last Sunday. As I left the ground everybody was calling for Chester's head.

Then the normally sanguine but ever so slightly sycophantic Rob Chadwick at the end of his Hull KR TV match commentary said that Rovers performance in losing at home to Wakefield was not what a team with aspirations to make the Super 8s should be churning out. From his eternally red and white lips, that's like a death sentence, but more interestingly would be derived from soundbites from the BOD.

When the youngest and most inexperienced member of the team despite playing out of position, despite earning less than other fellow team members and despite throwing a few wayward passes from dummy half, comfortably out performs and out enthuses his teammates, you know that things are wrong.

I'm glad Chezzie has gone. After Friday, Poching will be gone too. I predict we will be appointing an Aussie, purely on the basis that Neil Hudgell and not Mike Smith wrote the programme notes for last Sunday. Hope it's Geoff Toovey.
