Maybe Smith or Rovers playing safe, an option to increase on both sides is possible.

I just think the Ford rumour is too strong, be interesting if Smith comes in and wins more than 50% of your games and is then replaced by Ford, would make more sense to appoint Smith for the next 18 months and have Ford as his assistant to take over at that end of the that period.

On paper very good signing, although I'm sure that was said about Sheens.

Probably the best you could get at this time, strange that it is only for the rest of year, surely it isn't until Ford comes in, as that would be a massive downgrade.

I think you would have stayed up anyway, but it will be interesting to see if there is any long term improvement at Rovers under Smith.

Overall, I’d say Sheens proved to be a successful appointment. Steadied the ship, won the division we were in and navigated the qualifying 8s that year and the next.

This year things have come adrift a bit and he just seemed wearied by it all by the end.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but it feels like the club are trying to make things happen quickly rather than just dreaming about jam in five years or whatever.

A bit of immediate ambition and raised expectation could do us a world of good. Hope ‘kills’ fans but them (and the wider RL community) expecting us to lose in advance each week would eventually kill the club. You can’t build much on foundations of losing this much; that level of patience doesn’t exist in the real world.

Good appointment for me but lets not expect too much to soon, he's got a good track record of improving teams and hopefully that will continue. I can only guess the short deal is to see if both parties are happy with each other and if they are then the deals extended.
I like the idea of a young ambitious coach coming in long term but Tony Smiths been there and got the t-shirt and hopefully got his hunger back

Give it a good few games though before we see any of his influence i reckon

Was told the plan for next year was Smith DOR and Ford as coach. But in interview Smith doesn't rule out being Head Coach after this season? Certainly a shame Sheens left but I think he had a fair say in going early despite insinuations by gutter journalist. Overall something had to be done. Results/defence/stats just couldn't be allowed to plod on. Should be a big change in attitude and Smith is a more positive type of coach. Sunday will tell us a bit more 're players mindset.

Good appointment. He'll arrive with no favourites so the likes of Atkin may get a fair crack of the whip.
