It’s a sorry state you’ve got yourselves into this is. I never so this on-field demise coming to be fair even after Wembley.
To solve this you need to bring in real experience if you're to get to where you want to be which I presume to be the heady trophy days of the 70s 80s ?? cos that’s what we all dream of.
But to bring in real experience will need serious wedge, are you still in that league ?? maybe you are I don't know. And then you have to convince the good Coach to-be that its worthwhile, that the club is being run well and has a real future.
Clearly the present squad is not really a Marketable commodity, no one worth his salt will come to work with what you have at present so promises of some sort will have to be made re. strengthening.
Promises of new buys will also cost money, but you can't just buy willy nilly can you ? they have to be 1) available and 2) you have to have room on your cap, so you can't replace all the deadwood straight away, its unlikely it will be put right even by the end of this season.
Big question is ; is the money available to bring in an experienced coach AND sort out the mess on the playing rosta ?? I hope so for your sakes.
When he comes in I think you'll be in a similar position to where Wakey were when Smithy arrived, where you'll be bringing in a "past its use by date" experienced coach. He’ll just have to motivate and educate the squad he inherits. His good contacts will bring in some once quality journeymen who'll win you some games. If you then stay up you've got a chance to start for real next season. if you go down then you may be looking for someone else to take the reigns and start again. May be at board level too.
All depends on how deep your pockets are I suppose, or, do you just lower your expectations and your dreams ???
