I think this may be an astute signing by Tim Sheens .....Given the fact that Sheens has strength in depth regarding outside backs and that he is willing to trial players in different positions (Abdull at centre and Salter in the second-row for example) ......Maybe Sheens has decided to sign Carney to utilise his power, strength and speed in other positions ......A possible full-back maybe, or a second-row forward ......As a full-back or second-row forward, Carney would have more involvement in a game then he would have playing on the wing ......Maybe this proposition from Sheens is what tempted Carney away from a top side riding high in the Super League and to sign for a Championship side for the rest of this season and 2018? ......A new position and a new start with a seasoned coach respected throughout the game and with a club that is too good for the Championship was maybe the impetus for Carney to sign for us so he could home his skills in a new position and start all over again.
Given our injuries regarding our back-row forwards (Greenwood, Donaldson, Addy and Horne), personally, I would love to see Carney in the second-row and running hard at the defensive line on our flanks ......He has the potential to be our new Clint!
Astute signing!!! A super league standard winger with a great tries to games ratio option to play in the 2nd tier as it burned more bridges than Kelly's Heros!
Even with the season nearly half the way through, and 5 games of a ban to serve, he should end up the Championships top try scorer providing you can keep him on the pitch and keep his mouth shut!
I am not here to deride his past, I am all for second chances.
But you have to question Hudgel's ethics on this.
