[quote="Rural Robin"]I totally agree, I don’t go into town that much, but parking in Albion St Carpark it’s easy just to pop in for a browse, as you head into town which usually means a purchase. You would hope they have really thought this through, and as has been said rent and rates won’t be cheap, but it’s the fact we have a presence in the town centre where people can go[/quote

Do you remember the outcry when the Holderness Road shop closed and the one in town opened?

The only things that don’t change are our supporters who like a good moan.

I know we all contribute to the club in our own way but those that contribute the most have the biggest shout.

I appreciate your sentiments Keith, and yes everybody likes a good moan. My main point really is that the bulk of my and probably many other people’s purchases are made in the closed season in the run up to Christmas, and it’s convenient that the shop is in the centre. It gives us a focal point, but in reality it wouldn’t be a massive issue to go to CP, it’s just the passing trade loss set against the running costs of the town centre store that will be the clubs driver

Exactly my sentiments. I want Rovers to kick on with their brand instead of hiding behind a stadium in the middle of nowhere. Just because it saves a few quid.
Would F.c ever do this? I’d doubt they would.

I guess it’s not your few quid being saved! Maybe, assuming the reason is as you say, you could get in touch with the club and say you will pay the difference to enable the shop to stay open.

I support them as much as I can, when they move, it won’t be as much as it would having a shop in the city Centre. That’s a lot of people’s point of view on here. But smart booty comments like yours trying to offer “debate” just smack of bellendry from someone who really hasn’t a clue on matters of commerce.

I have no problem with your thoughts about leaving the city centre. It’s your assumption that the club would make the decision just to save a few quid. The few on here who agree with you are not necessarily representative of supporters in general.

What in my post gave you the impression I know nothing about commerce? You continue to make assumptions without any supporting evidence.

What would be the reason in leaving then Keith?. I’d love to know your point of view on it.

I don’t know any more than you. Save a lot of money? End of lease? Moving to better premises? Commercial decision based on expected savings being greater than possible reduced profit?

I have no information about how or why the decision was made but based on the knowledge that our club is run by successful businessmen I suspect it was for a more substantial reason than saving a few quid. I do not even know what you consider to be a few quid.

It has to be that they think it’ll increase profit. Maybe some of that can be reinvested in more efficient marketing methods than having a city centre retail presence. I dunno.

A pop-up around the launches of season passes and shirts should mitigate a lot of the lost revenue. I would guess that there are some pretty quiet months in that shop outside of those times. But that’s all we can do - guess.

I’m not assuming that the they always make what turn out to be great decisions, but i’m not going to go the other way either.

As for Hull, do they have a shop at the KCOM? If not, then I doubt Allam would be keen to help set it up. But if they could and they did a cost-benefit that showed it was a better option, i’m sure they would.

So a few quid, or a lot? It all comes down to cost of rent/wages (of which I’d presume most being on a minimum to a living wage baring the manager) and the value of a city centre shop. I’m not privy to the figures but with season passes, shirt sales and merchandise sales, the club should be reaching well over a million pounds per annum gross. I’d love to know the net Profit on merchandise but non of us will ever know. So a few quid or a lot would depend on what you’d lose by not having a prime location. It would be interesting to know footfall figures our shop currently gets, something we all could caragorically say would never happen at a stadium shop.
