Any Professional Sportsperson who comes back from pre season visibly overweight as Kelly simply cannot perform at their peak if they're not in peak condition; people need to accept they will get slated by the fans as its us that are paying for all the burgers he is clearly eating. Dixon isn't good enough. Cockayne as above. Lunt injury prone but on a long term contract Campese injury prone Tilse playing better than last season but still bang average. Horne is having a mare of a season so far. Our 2nd row is shocking in attack and defence, Blair is getting on, but was signed as a centre/6 anyway, iv'e mentioned Horne, Larroyer had 1 good season on loan then has been average.
Realistically we cannot replace the full squad, but need to replace key positions....definitely 1,6,7,11 & 12
Time for people to let go of sentiment and to embrace reality.
Excellent post and one that gets to the heart of the objective of starting this topic. Cheers

No it's not, it's just stating the bleeding obvious. We all know we are turd, it's how to sort it that's the debate. Posts that involve " get rid of" followed by a massive list of (contracted) players are devoid of sense and show an ignorance of sporting contractual reality.
'Thus I am tormented by my curiosity and humbled by my ignorance.' from History of an Old Bramin, The New York Mirror (A Weekly Journal Devoted to Literature and the Fine Arts), February 16th 1833.
Despite the on-field drift over the last few years and the horribly rapid regression of recent months, there's still something to build on - assuming we can dodge the drop. I don't want to have another massive turnover of players, even if it was feasible.
Sprinkle some healthy quality and a bit of physicality in amongst some of the solid players. Have an orthodox preseason. Hypothetically tearing it all up offers a brief catharsis, but mainly I think we need to be more hard nosed and rational.

I'd like to think the club know this and have a plan. the point of these forums is for fans to debate ideas and (where necessary) vent. Nothing what is said on here will make an iota of difference to the club, wether thats team selection, recruitment, choice of new coach or boardroom issues. but people like to discuss these things, it's human nature.
We are poo and it is stating the obvious. There are questions that need answers before anything can be fixed. We all know Rovers don't have the cash to pay off inadequate/injured players who are on long term contracts and so we will be stuck with some players who are simply not good enough.
1. Who is out of contract at the end of the season? 2. Do the club wish to retain the services of players coming off contract? 3. Can each player coming off contract be replaced with someone of better quality?
IIRC i think Sio, Kelly & Blair are in the final season of their contracts, thats 3 quota spaces and i would imagine a sizeable chunk of cap. I think Tilse has another year, Charlie is on a rolling contract which will automatically be extended if he reaches a certain amount of games (15?). Campese signed an extension last year as did Lunt.

Massively disagree with you here, Stan.
Something is wrong with our team, our players, our club, our culture, our vision, our on-field strategy at the moment.
Despite some inane posts, some that state the obvious and some hypothetical reasoning, there is always an underlying mix of well intentioned subjective and objective realism and rational debate from our esteemed collective.
We need to make some difficult contractual decisions as a club in the coming months. I would hope the club may get some wind of the majority sentiments expressed on here and react accordingly. If not, the downward spiral won't end anytime soon. Hope springs eternal.

Blair has an option of a 3rd year which he is taken up and which I'm pleased about

It was a good post.
You are getting close to the actual problem, in your "contractual reality" who dished out and drew up all these wonderful four year deals for known shirkers..?, who chose to pay a very dodgy centre from Wigan a massively over the top percentage of our salary cap...?, who decided to blow several hundred thousands on talented but known to have and having documented histories of injuries, playing in losing teams, never winning anything, but yes talented without ever winning anything or even coming close, half backs...? who chose to pay one of said mens close friends stupid money they are clearly not worth...? Who decided, and why , to proceed with a totally pointless signing of an un-needed outside back who has already done the rounds with several lower league clubs ?
Fair dos to the players they didnt offer themselves the deals but i bet they all could have an entertaining evening swapping stories with Jimmy Bullard...
The faults at the heart of the club are not solely on the playing side and until this is addressed or resolved nothing will change...sadly those at the very top seem to have some very unfortunate blind spots.

Well said but we will never know or if we ever do we will be the last to know has we are only fans so we do not matter

Well done on completely contradicting yourself throughout that.
you ask why play a Wigan centre (who's won stuff) a made up amount of money Then why sign players playing in losing teams? which do you want winners that demand pay or losers who don't? Working on your logic then you obviously wouldn't touch the likes of Jarryd Hayne, Darryl Clarke, Danny Brough? Who are these known shirkers, can't say I've heard that leveled at any of our players. Which outside back do you mean, Shaw? Which one is the friend that you know so much about his earnings?
Its all ok coming up with posts like this that insinuate without naming and add the odd bit of conjecture in there but ultimately you've just made most of it up to meet your own objective. State names and facts and maybe it would be valid.
As a Rovers supporter of many years I would like to ask a few questions on our recruitment over the past few seasons we had an ex land lord and part time ameteur club committee man in charge of purchasing new players, the majority being either second rate that no one else wanted or former great players that had well documented injury problems. Or we have brought them in and they have left without fulfilling there contracts to go to pastures greener. Ok we have had our share of bad luck but apart from that most of them have not come through and been an asset to the club. We now have Jamie Peacock, one of the best forwards ever to grace the modern era as Football Manager and aparantly wonderful after dinner speaker. When is he going to start managing the club and turning it to a major club like Leeds. Or Is he just learning the ropes before he goes back to the Rhinos in a couple of years time.to take up a similar role. He seems to be more interested setting up his own businesses than managing Rovers. What input did he have in signing some of the new crop of players if any at all. Yes we have been hit hard this season Kelly,Campesie,Lunt,Larroyer,Mantelato,Horne, along with Green,French John, and Adam Walker alleged problem all don't help the cause injuries and other problems. All roll up to us being where we are we have never had in my opinion a first class head coach all have been assistants from Oz or made up ex players or coaches that have never won anything any where else. All cheap options. If we do get relegated God forbid let's hope that we start afresh Get a First Class coach not the bandleader for that is the biggest mistake the board will have made for a long time. Webster is only a stop gap and fair play to him in taking up the job Chester had to go should never have been given the job. Let Peacock earn his coin use his contacts, he must have an address book full of them, and bring in some good players and a first class coach a proven head coach or we will stay in the championship for some time.
