NEW Rugby League Academy Opening In Doncaster 2011 : Mon Nov 29, 2010 4:28 pm
Balby Academy of Sport will be opening a Specialist Rugby League Academy from September 2011.
The Academy will be offering a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, coaching and fitness) allowing students to combine sport and academic studies. Leading towards 2-3 A-Levels. Lasting for two years the course will provide 6 hours per week of specialist coaching and support from the Academies 12 members of staff and expert coaches from Doncaster RLFC. The course content has been specially designed to cover all technical, physical, psychological and biomechanical aspects of Rugby League. Director of Rugby League Martin Dye is extremely positive about the Academy, ‘Within the Balby Academy of Sport structure we have been working extremely hard to develop Rugby League across the whole school and surrounding communities. The Academy allows us to attract students not only from our school but from across Doncaster and South Yorkshire that have a passion for Rugby League. The initial interest has been positive, all the staff are looking forward to September.’ The course also creates a possible pathway to a professional career in Rugby League, while also providing an option to continue to University.
