Halfbacks : Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:41 pm
One of the things that has really surprised me this season is that Catalans chose to sign Shane Perry and play him at seven.
The greatest period of Catalans success last year had Mogg at half-back alongside Bosc, yet that is completely out of the window now, seemingly never to be revisited.
This may have been brought about by injuries, with Mcguire moving to hooker (now his permanent position) and Mogg moving into seven.
he seemed a perfect foil for his partner Bosc. Thomas is reported quite a shy guy whose a bit quiet on the pitch, whereas Mogg is anything but. Indeed, it was plying alongside Moggy that saw Bosc really rise to prominence.
I just can't understand why no-one at the club realises that it is a partnership that works (which after all is what counts in the halves - you can sign the best halves in the world but if they don't work together well then you can forget it).
I'm pained to see Catalans performances this year and hope that someone comes to their senses and realises its not all about signing and playing players just because they are available but going with what is proven to work.
