Only just seen this incident but was very surprised to see Mounis get a ban for that tackle which is similar to several others seen every season which just receive a penalty. The disiciplinary certainly seem keen to come down hard on Catalans, more so than other teams. I wonder if this is because the players/coaches can only make representations over the phone rather than in person, and I also suspect that the disciplinary are more willing to suspend players from the teams further down the table who aren't consider to be major players in the league at the moment. By way of example, Mounis received a one match ban for a tackle that seemed to me to be accidental and the result of the involvement of Bentley arriving in the tackle, whereas other players from Wigan and Warrington for example have appeared before the disciplinary for tackling players high and off the ball, with no suspension arising (O'loughlin and Morley).
Taking on NathanWood's point, Andrew was involved in the tackle to start with, if Mounis doesn't get involved then the attacker doesn't get flipped, as it ended up, he got flipped past the vertical so it ended up not being as dangerous as it looked at first.
Perhaps the disciplinary is being tough, but I hear that the "video guy" who is going to the hearings isn't helping matters. He is trying to over complicate the defence, the RFL are seeing him as thinking he is more important than he is, then they are handing down the punishments. IMO if Walters' appealed the decisions we would have had half the amount of suspensions we have had.
Was speaking to G1 about this earlier and he mentioned that Leeds have a similar issue under Bluey, at which I pointed out, yes they do, but manage to stamp it out at the critical time of the year.
I just think that come semi-final time whether we have players like Greeny, McGuire and Walker back they won't have a platform on which to perform if Fev, Oli and the likes continue to give away penalties and posession.
Defending the players at tribunals is an impossible task when you are 1,000 miles away. The panel have already decided before the hearing what sentence they are giving out.
How many England players will get suspended this week prior to an International?
Looking at the back pages of the rugby press the other week where Westwood upended Raleigh makes me laugh, the RFL said there was not enough evidence to prove Raleigh was in a dangerous position, how about a large photo on the back page of the English Rugby press!!!
whether you are 1000 miles away or not, the defence is not an issue if you can put your case accross well, look at how many suspensions we had when Potter was in charge compared to when Kevin has been in charge, perhaps that is one of the areas we need to look at when looking at replacements!
How do you put any case across well when the panel have already made up their minds.
If you don't think that certain clubs get treated differently to others then look at the case of Warrington & Leeds. Bailey got two warning letters for the same offence this season and then appeared for a third time and was found guilty but only fined because they had an injury crisis!!!
Westwood is continually kneeling on the backs of opponents legs but he always gets of with cautions and as for Morley well he is now a national treasure isn't he?
All Catalans need is some parity with the English clubs, it could be worse we could be a French club in the Championship...
