I'm pretty certain that if Walters had said no then Bird would not be at the club. No matter what he has done in his personal life the guy oozes class on a rugby field, FACT.
Perhaps (and I suspect they were) Bradford were offering him stupid money to and be their star signing for 2009. It was more important for us to sign a replacement for Wilson and Chan, in which we signed an NRL Grand Final winner and an Australian international. Hardly mugs eh?
