Why deeply ashamed? Tis an easy mistake to make. Not many people would know much of what was going on in other teams so why should you? Saints were hoping for both Tyrer and Smith to have valuable first grade experience at the Crusaders and for them to be valuable players for the Crusaders.
Although Tyer does have defensive problems - or he did when at Saints anyway (they need not be lifelong problems of course) - but he works well with Smith and he is a bit of a try machine. He also kicks well. So with good coaching and encouragement there is no reason to believe that Tyer could not be beneficial to you and it is a real shame he is being left in the reserves.
I think Dixon may need to get a little more creative? It's clear your team is struggling, which is not a huge surprise given the big gap between Championship and SL standard, but there could be alternatives which Dixon may need to explore?
