Skolars v Gateshead – Match Preview25th May 2012
Skolars are pleased to report that the New River pitch has today been inspected by an RFL match commissioner. This follows a period of extensive remedial work carried out by Haringey Council, who are responsible for the pitch. Subject to a a final piece of work being carried out the match commissioner confirmed that he would deem the pitch safe to play on.
Haringey Council have undertaken to finish the last piece of work required in good time for Sunday’s match and the club therefore see no reason why the match will not proceed as planned, with a 2pm kick-off.
After the postponement of the last home match against South Wales Scorpions and the disappointment of losing at Barrow last week, after pushing the league leaders so close for most of the match Skolars are itching to get playing agin and to maintain there unbeaten home league record this season.
Talking of records a much improved Gateshead Thunder side will be looking to end their long winless run, which goes back to March 2010 when they defeated, yes you guessed it, Skolars!
Mike Worrincy is set to make his 100th career appearance on Sunday whilst leading try scorer Ade Adebisi will be making his 50th start for Skolars, having amassed 156 points for the club
Thunder centre Ashley Thackeray believes a victory is imminent after seeing the effort Gateshead produced in their most recent defeat, a 46-26 loss against Rochdale.Thackeray said: “All the boys are that much hungrier for that first win, and I don’t think it’s too far away for us now.”
Thunder coach Kevin Neighbour hopes to have both Mike Mitchell and Ryan McBride available for Sunday’s trip south.
Kick-off is at 2pm and with the fine weather set to continue why not come down to New River on Sunday and enjoy some great Rugby League. Tickets are available on the door priced at £12 for adults and £6 for concessions
