Are any of them in the category of recent kids brought into SL at other clubs, such as Richie Myler, we could do with at least one to come through, especially at 6 for next season.

I think we need to be careful not to put undue pressure on the kids or try to push them through the grades too quickly but i reckon both Bell and Sherriff will get first team squad numbers next season.

I agree, in general, but the games history is full of examples of 'if your good enough, our old enough' with Millward, Schofield and more recently Burgess and Myler in the UK and the likes of Boustead, Fittler, Boyd and Young in Oz, all these were test players in their teens. These are exceptions to the rule, its that sort of talent i am talking about, not your average prospect.

I see what you are saying but just because a player isnt playing first grade at 17 it doesnt rule them out of the outstanding prospects category. At that age it is a players physical development aswell as their ability which determines whether they can be considered for first grade. The last thing we want to see is a kid who isnt ready physically exposed to Super League. I believe that is what has happened to Reece Lynn across the city. He is clearly in the outstanding prospect category but wasnt ready to be exposed yet.

What about any strike players coming through the 20s to cover for Fox, Colbon and Briscoe etc?

Hard Work Beats Talent, When Talent Doesn't Work Hard

Was talking to someone who coaches at youth level in the amateur game and helps out at Rovers and he reckons Kristian Bell is going to be a top player. I don't get to the youngsters games, is he right
At the 18s derby he was easily the best player on the pitch and the most impressive thing was the way he seemed to be a natural leader.

Have you got more dispensation to play Rowan Colquhoun

I don't see anything in the reserves to cover these sort of players.

In fact, apart from forwards James Green and Scott Taylor (both outstanding prospects) and to a lesser extent Dominic Dee, the reserves on a whole look pretty ordinary to me.

The real talent at this club lies with the next wave of players. The likes of Kristian Bell, Louis Sherriff and Jordan Cox...all of whom are probably at least 18 months away from challenging for a first team place.

In answer to an earlier question, I believe this trio are definitely better than your "average prospect" and are probably more exciting than anything the club has had for 20 years!

If there's no one in the Reserves to cover these positions, does that mean more expense or does Morgan play even more players out of position? Looks like James Haynes and Liam Welham aren't doing too bad in the Championship after being released by KR when they could have gone out on a dual registration. Could have developed and been brought back as required. I'm not too sure KR's policy of not having players out on duals is beneficial to the long term.

The harsh reality is that, dual-registration or not, Welham or Haynes just don't have the size, speed or skill to play regularly in a top half Super League team! They were unwanted by other clubs and are the remnants of the old National League club's youth policy!

The same applies to the vast majority of the current reserve side...though a few such as Mariano, Beaumont and Spaven have developed sufficiently to merit a token place in the first team squad to allow the club to satisfy the rules on homegrown players in the short-term.

Do they have a long-term future with the club? Probably not!

It's the next wave of players like Kristian Bell, Louis Sherriff, Jordan Cox, James Green, Joe Gay etc who will help take Hull KR to the next level.

All have been cherry-picked by the club and have been exposed to a much more professional coaching set-up from a younger age.

The club are much better off ploughing money into the development of these players and topping up the squad with promising young players from other clubs like Josh Hodgson than wasting more money on the club's current reserves!

Interesting about Liam Welham when other comments on here state KR kept the wrong brother! Size isn't everything in Super League, unless you want to turn League into Union with 6' 10 19 stone second rowers and 6' 4 16 stone wingers across the board!
From the above comments it looks like KR have a few more years yet to see a crop of home grown players playing regular 1st team rugby.
