Can't argue with Smith's summary : Sat Mar 31, 2012 12:02 am
he knows we are gash presently and I cannot argue with hid synopsis. So what is he going to do about it?

Warrington coach Tony Smith:
"Our performances have been pretty much the same each week which is the disappointment and some of that came home to roost tonight.
"The way we have been playing is giving away penalties and giving away the ball cheaply in the wrong parts of the field and Saints are in a mood at the moment where they are happy to receive that and hurt you like Saints can, which they did.
"We made a fist for a while in the second half and, after getting back to 12 points, if we had got another try maybe it would have put pressure on them, but when the clock starts to run out on you it forces you into more errors.
"A few of our offloads were silly tonight in circumstances where we were just trying to force something which is letting us down. "We will have ups and downs throughout the season and hopefully we will now get on a good run and play some good footy."

We were easily beaten for the first 20 minutes ,then we started to get a foothold , but that performance was nowhere near good enough. I know TS likes to spout about his players love of throwing the ball about but you would think ,as coach, that he would have some influence on what type of game is played to suit various opposition teams , i.e. throw it about or shove it up your jumper !

Mum said, "Its ok, its a nice new coat. Look its white, has nice shiney buckles and makes you hug yourself. Go try it on!"

Re: Can't argue with Smith's summary : Sat Mar 31, 2012 8:58 am
All this shove it up your jumper crap is nauseous, it is what blew top sides off the park last season. Just players out of form, nervous.

I think the defensive effort is our issue. The not sprinting off our line to hammer (bordering on illegal) the opposition crept into our game in the ill fated Leeds semi final last year. Stains second try was evident again last night, Morley ambling back into line not facing play of ball and thus a player ghosting past and one pass later scored. 12-nil down and momentum difficult to halt then.

We put ourselves under pressure as we are not forcing mistakes, thus were defending and then knackered = tired when we have ball.

A lot of the things we did well last year are not working for us, I think some of the opposition teams have worked us out as well (coming back in against the slide instead of trying to create overlaps etc) so we need to adapt.

As we have got a lot of strength in depth this year and can put at least two top class sides out which the others can't, we should drop the first team and play the other team, players shouldn't be guaranteed places.

We need to take proper action to stop this slide down the table, I think too many of our players are letting wins over middling teams like Wigan think they are better than they really are.

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!

Re: Can't argue with Smith's summary : Sat Mar 31, 2012 11:12 am
I was speaking to a work college about the rugby yesterday (he's a vikings fan) and said the way to beat Warrington is to hit them hard for 20 minutes, try and gets some points on the board and then defende and pick up the lose balls when Wolves start to play panic/catchup rugby...............................I now think that somebody from Saints had bugged the room !!!!

I know you are being tediously ironic here but there is an element of truth in this, in the last three matches we have only worked our way back into the game by starting to put together some higher percentage plays and sets.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Rogues what do you think of the theory that the age of Warrington's players is catching up with them and they need to start playing some youngsters like Wigan do?
