Oldham away : Mon Sep 10, 2018 4:07 pm
After Oldham’s result at York think this will be tough. Can see the Bulls edging it.

I watched the game. Oldham made so many errors in the York 20. Think it got to 10 before I stopped counting.

I can't see York cocking up their last two games, meaning that the result of this game is pretty meaningless anyway.

Despite that I hope we win. Let's just get through it with no injuries too.

Always thought it was going to be a hard one, tbh.

The good thing, I guess, is that we have already qualified as second but obviously it would be good to go into the play-offs with a decent winning record over recent games. JK has already mentioned about 'saving players' for the play-offs but I reckon he'll want a winning run beforehand too.

The odds on York screwing up in the last two are probably similar to the odds on us losing to Workington at home, so, unlikely as it may be, I wouldn't rule it out with the pressure on.

Good test that we'll need is this. Oldham really matched York and if they kept hold of the ball more, probably would have won. Oldham will be fired up as the play-off race is so tight.

Our attack has been disjointed all season and Oldham have the third best defence in the league behind us and York. So it will be a good test for us in the run up to the play-offs to see if we can create some tries when we're not able to just run through someone.

Like Bulliac says, if we can beat Oldham then the pressure will be on York for the last game. They won't overturn our points difference now and they'll know that they have to win as we'll be at home to Hemel. They'll also be facing the only team who have beaten them since the first game of the season who will also probably be battling for a play off place. If they come through that , and i expect they will, then they'll deserve to be champions. It does give us a little bit of hope though providing we don't slip up against Oldham.

This game is meaningless regardless of the outcome of the vote on Friday.
The new structure gets approved and we're up anyway. The new structure doesn't get approved and we can't be caught by whoever is in third place so again it doesn't matter.

Well if the change goes through on Friday, it means nothing to us true and probably end up losing anyway.

If it doesn't, this is our last test of the season before the playoffs against a team battling to get in them and could be playing again in a fortnight for a place in the final. Considering our record in "games that matter", I hope the players wouldn't go into this game with the attitude that it's meaningless, especially as they ran York close last week and we are on their patch this week.

I don't regard this as a nothing game. It matters because it's our last league game against a decent niggly side. We need to test ourselves for the knock-out rugby we may well have to face shortly. Oldham are a miniature Workington and we could do with sussing out how to shut down that type of team.
