Why not just drink in the city centre and get a taxi to the stadium and walk back? The city centre has some great pubs.

Trivago offering the Holiday Inn Knowsley at £100 on the Saturday night with free breakfast........cheapest rooms after that are nearer £250. I can see many folk making a day trip of it which will impact on the aesthetic, if not the attendance.

I’ve just this morning booked a house that sleeps 6 for two nights that’s two minute walk from Anfield for less than that! . Try air bnb

Actually thats not true. Hull to Liverpool is about 20 miles less than Hull to Newcastle. Going to Newcastle is admittedly an easier drive as a rule, but based on distance Liverpool is closer to everyone.

£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

I don't really understand the theory that there's nothing to do around the ground. If you're talking drinking, then off the top of my head I can name ten pubs with a five minute walk of Anfield - Albert, Park, Sandon, Dodds, Arkles, Stanley, King Harry, Salisbury, Hotel TIA, Kop Bar. That's without using Google because I'm familiar with the ground and area very well, but there's probably a couple more I've forgot. I don't know any other ground in the country with as many that close! If you're not talking drinking, then the recent redevelopment of Anfield has created a load of space behind the Kop for things to be set up by the MW organisers, and there's also the fan zone on Anfield Road. In addition to that there's a big park right behind that where extra things can be put on if need be.

I acknowledge that people are comparing to St James' which is in a city centre, but most grounds aren't. There's been three Magic Weekend's in east Manchester, and Anfield has a lot more to do then there is around there unless you're talking about doing your shopping at Asda between games!

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

Re: Magic weekend fixtures announced : Fri Nov 16, 2018 8:21 pm
^ This 100%. Anfield is superior to the Etihad in almost every respect. Bags of room for a fan village on Stanley Park and the pubs around the ground are proper sport boozers. People are just thinking “Scousers” and getting the hump. FFS you can walk from the city centre in 25 minutes or it’s about £7 in a taxi!
