are Wigan skint? offloading every top earner and replacing with championship or average sl players
Whilst everyone seems to be taking delight in our current situation, Wigan seem to be in a lot of strife themselves, falling crowds, absolute shambles over the Edwards situation, no coach signed for next year, offloading players etc, and remember they are only 2 points ahead of us in the table and would be level if the points deduction had stood
Phil Wilkinson- Wigan's Peter Smith- reckons Hastings wants to know who the head coach he is going to be playing for before he commits to a club. Imagine that's the same for both Wigan and Leeds.

Quite right too. This is why we need to make it happen even if not until end of season it comes into effect
As much as I admire Jack Walker a five year deal is excessive. I know its only a 3 year top up to his original deal, (18 months left on his contract) but a five year commitment is too long especially when you see what has happened to Kallum Watkins, and Ash Golding. I only hope that Stevie Ward doesn't ask for the same or a similar deal. Agents once they see these sort of deals being handed out they try and get their players similar deals, we end up with players who we cannot off load due to injuries, loss of form, bad attitude etc and it does affect the team moral. Walker is a fantastic young talent lets hope he continues to develop and becomes a world class full back. I just hope 5 year deals do not become the norm at Headingley.
5 year deals have been around at Headingley for a while now. Hardaker and Golding both signed 5 year deals. And I seem to remember Hardaker criticising the length after all the stuff that happened with him as well as advising young players to think twice before signing such a deal.

Well good news for Hardaker is it's hard to imagine anyone offering him 5 years again.
See what people are saying but I think it's great news that we're investing long term in the future of the club. Hopefully Walker will be able to lead the youngsters coming through with the experience he's gaining at the moment.
At the end of the day we all know long term contracts mean diddly nowadays anyway but it's a great show of faith from both parties. If he keeps developing and the NRL come knocking properly then I doubt having years left on his contract will make a huge amount of difference in this day and age but it offers us a bit of protection so works both ways. Exactly the kind of player we need to be looking to to take the club forward over the next 5 years imho (I know he's not the finished article, yadda yadda…)

It also send a good message to the kids in the Academy, if they get in the first team and prove they their worth the club will reward them
