Featherstone Edge Closer to Play-Off Final with York Victory

Two sides with contracting fortunes in the opening week of the play-offs came together for a sudden death eliminator at Bootham Crescent, as the York City Knights took on a Featherstone Rovers side who outplayed Leigh Centurions last weekend.

Featherstone comprehensively won two of the three meetings between the two sides in 2019, although it was the City Knights who won the most recent encounter, by a narrow 22-18 scorline.

One of these sides would be ending the season here and taking a well earned rest after a long season, the other would be going forward for an international trip to either Toulouse or Toronto to play in the second semi-final to keep their hopes alive.

Featherstone well worth the win. How does York's number 7 get a game? Does Nothing in attack or defense.

Thought it was him. Greyburn and Gene kept trying to push him into the Halves but came through the system at Hooker and to be honest, wasnt that good there either.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Ford has been found out - when the pressure was on the 5 drives and a kick has been shown to be what it is - one dimensional and easy to unpick. If Ford isn't going to turn into another John Kear he needs to rethink his strategy.

You have to be kidding, he has managed to guide York to third place and the play-offs with a team on a much lower budget, and with far less natural talent, than any of the other top 5 contenders. York have no stars but their success this season has been built on teamwork and excellent coaching. I'm a Fev fan and I think Ryan Carr has done a tremendous job for us, especially given where we were in January, but Ford's the Championship coach of the season without a doubt.

Saying Ford has been found out there is as silly as saying Danny Ward has been found out because London got relegated.

Don't think he has. How things go next year will be interesting. Will York kick on, or will they do 'a Batley' who had a similar season of being on the right side of close results in 2016?

As a newly promoted club, York have been superb and if they can kick on from what they have done this season, they will be challenging again next year.
You also have to congratulate Fev on coming back from the "brink", they too have had a remarkable season so far.
They may be the least glamorous of the three remaining clubs in the chase for promotion and a few days in Featherstone, compared with Toronto or Toulouse, isn't quite the same, although you would get to sleep in your own bed on matchday, especially with the short trip over form Wakefield :D

Ford is a very structured coach like Powell or Kear - unfortunately when the plan doesn't work there is no plan b because the players are allowed to deviate from the plan. Powell has never won a final and 2017 was a glaring example of what happens when the coach's plan is worked out. Yesterday was the same Ford had a plan 5 drives kick deep hope for a mistake - when Fev went in from early in the second half York didn't have a plan b.
