Alex Walker : Sat Sep 28, 2019 6:20 pm
As expected Alex Walker has signed for Wakefield Trinity on a two year deal. Sorry to see him go, but in truth I would have thought he could have done better. We shall have to see how it works out.
Anyhow I do thank him for his time at our club and wish him well in the future.

Great at catching a bomb, not so good at running forward.

Plenty of natural talent there with that lad.

Defensively sound (did he ever drop the ball?) and a decent runner/passer. I will watch his progress at Belle Vue with interest. Hope he goes well

Defensively sound all season long but, as mentioned above, his attacking play really fell off the boil in the second half of the season. Seemed to lose all confidence in his decision-making and only ever tried to make that little half-step back inside between he centre and second row. Don't think he completed a single pass to a man outside him in the last dozen games or so. Needs to re-assess his play.

Definitely a lot of talent to work with there, and I wish him al the best. Overall, he's been excellent for us over the past 3 or 4 years.

He just needed some better coaching in attack, think the only time I ever saw him offload it actually was the one time he needed to hold on.
He was used as a dummy runner a lot at the ruck going back into the space behind the markers, very predictable.
He was safe as houses under the high ball and extremely dangerous at the kick chase.
With good advice he will develop into a very solid player for wakey, the move will do him good

You do realise we have been playoff contenders 3 years in a row until this year. You do realise we have some top players, most of whom have sadly spent the season on crutches. It's a brilliant move for the lad, joining a genuinely competitive side but without the pressure cooker environment at say Leeds or Wigan.

At Wakefield, he's playing with good players in a team that has an outside chance but without the pressure to perform immediately. He will get time to find out if he's good enough with us, he won't at certain other clubs. Then in two years time (he's only 24) if he wishes he can make the money move or better still he may wish to stay with a club who he's helped make a success.

Size and prestige isn't everything in RL, the opportunity is. Wakefield has been the springboard for many a successful SL and international player, he's made a smart choice imo.

I think us naive Southern folk regard the big fish of Leeds and Wigan and Saints as big clubs. I respect Trin apart from sending us down but it’s about perception rightly or wrongly. It’s probably more about the esteem we hold our junior products. LMS to Saints Sarge and Clubby to Wigan Meek to Cas etc. I hope Walker goes well for you.

I still think Alex Walker could have done better for himself. What I do not know are what his options were. He obviously wanted to stay in Super League and made his choice.
For me Wakefield Trinity are a club who performance wise have peaked, who financially will be stressed through its financing the purchase of the ground and cost of refurbishment. And whist their first seventeen or so may be very competitive they lack strength in depth. As this season has shown.
I will watch Alex's performances next season with interest. I hope he does well.

He needs to put some mass on. Got dominated in the ruck way too often for me this year
