England's wingers : Sun Oct 20, 2019 3:46 pm
Ryan Hall and Jermaine McGillvary.

Seriously ... ?

Budgie and Marshy could have done a better job in their slippers.

When Ryan Hall's record for England comes under scrutiny by Wigan fans saying that Budgie and Marshall could have done better for GB/England
Budgie couldn't even smuggle his way onto the plane as he has been that bad for Wigan this season(Pun in there if you can find it)and both would have got absolutely murdered in test match games against the Kiwis

You do realise that it was a 9's competition which is neither Hall's or Jermaine McGillvary's ideal game due to their lack of out and out pace?
And that they were simply getting some much needed game time as they haven't played for a while in order to get them ready for the test matches?

If Manfredi had been fit then IMO he is the only winger in our comp that could have made the starting 13 before either of the 2 mentioned players...IMO of course

Scrutinse the past all you want. It doesn't make any difference when the players in question are now too heavy and too slow. They were embarrassingly poor. While George Williams used the tournament to give Canberra a worrying hint of what they've paid all that money for (and I add that bit just to show that I'm not Wigan party politicking).

McGillvary has been good for England in the past, but he had a poor tournament, and is not getting any younger. Much the same applies to Hall. But as well as Manfredi (maybe!), there are Makinson and lad from Wakey coming through, neither of whom were available. I can't imagine Ash Handley is the answer, although i don't think he did too badly in the Nines.

Never nines players but they’re superb test wingers and deserve their spots.

We were criminally slow in the nines and had basically picked a back up squad to the main GB squad to take part (Tomkins, Watts, Sutton etc) on the off chance they could step in to the test squad if needed. It probably comes down to money in the end but that was an awful squad to try and win a nines comp.

In my book, a Test winger should be able to go half the length of the field after he's picked up a loose ball and not look like he's running in sand, whether he's playing Nines or not. I just felt that in all aspects of the tournament we looked slow and uninterested. It wasn't just the two wingers, though I still think they both looked woefully off the pace of the competition.

The problem with the British game in one.

A couple of injuries (or 3 if you count Manfredi) and we're already down to the second-raters.
