Travelling to Toronto : Tue Dec 03, 2019 11:30 am
For those who have already experienced the delights of rugby leagues newest SL side, what are the best ways for getting over there and hotels for seeing the city and getting to the game ?

I'd fly to NYC...... Get the amtrack to niagra, stay in downtown toronto, catch a blue jays game whilst having lunch at the hard rock and stay in a motel rather than a hotel..... 1/3rd the cost before flying back out of toronto. That said... Its been 18 years since i was last there so no doubt a lot has changed...... But chips, gravy and cheese is still a delacy i expect.

You had me, right up until the chips, gravy and cheese.
Tbf, hotels are easy but, some cheap flights would be useful.

I've just booked via Air Transat - it would have been reasonable if they hadn't charged me £80 for luggage (i'm going for a week so had no choice). I couldn't find anything better going direct and going via somewhere else wasn't cheap enough to make it worthwhile. I'll sort out hotels later but as you say they are pretty easy.

I went with Air Canada Rouge to/from Manchester. Transport from airport to downtown Toronto is cheap and regular (approx. £7 by train, 20mins and £2.50 bus/subway, 1hr). The ground is a 30mins or so walk from the centre west along King Street - there is also a tram that stops right outside the ground. For a pre (and/or post) match beer with the friendly locals, walk down Atlantic Ave (just east of the ground) from King St West , turn left on to Liberty St and walk till you get to the 3 Brewers pub.

Single journeys on the bus/subway/tram system cost CAD3.25 (approx. £2.50) and allow multiple hop ons and offs for (I think) 2hrs from 1st scanning in. The city (and transport system) felt safe even late at night.

I wish everyone would read bramleyrhino's post two or three times just to get it through some thick skulls

Mr bramleyrhino speaks a lot of sense.

We've booked from Leeds to Toronto via Amsterdam with KLM (although it was cheaper to book through Virgin Atlantic). The connections are actually pretty reasonable.

If you're happy to do connection flights ,you're easily pleased and doing it for the sake of it.

I think on the way there it's 50-60 mins. Can't remember on the way back. Considering that it'll take me about that to get to Manchester, vs flying from my back yard, that's not bad n my view.

The few hundred quid cheaper is more than worth it as well.
