We’ve been very lucky to see the core of a great team lead us to winning an amazing haul of trophies, the succession plan lanning has been very poor but groups of players like we had don’t just come along all the time its hardly a shock that the multi grand final winning squad is better than the one we have now.
Agree with every word of that, we’ve been extraordinarily fortunate to see that group of players come together at our club in our lifetime. I suppose I’m just a bit frustrated at how we have declined through a lack of focus and foresight to have this bunch of players when it so easily could have been much better.
We’re improving, I can see that, but it’s a long way back from how far we fell.

There were maybe 3-4 players in super league at the time that could have forced their way into that team, it's one of the greatest RL sides ever assembl, both individual players and the total sum of its parts. Comparing any side to it in any era is very very difficult. We have been spoilt, and yes planning the transition has been poor, but I don't think the club set out to recruit/plan it that way. But we are getting it right and I think we are back in an upward curve. This squad reminds me of our 2002 squad, we are getting the core right and it's nearly but not quite there yet.
Normal service resumed. Woeful in attack, and getting caught out in defence in the same areas as last season. It’s ok beating a Wakefield second string, and a championship side, but turning it up a level has shown how far we are behind still.

Its a friendly, means nothing, bar the frost bite Referee is ruining it for me, blowing up for everything.

Got to agree on the ref. And the number of forward passes both sides is a bit frustrating.
Yet again though Handley looks poor as an attacking outlet in open play. Running dummy half and returning kicks, he is fine, but using his wing and supporting breaks god knows where he is.

Agree mate, it’s freezing and the ref is a bit whistle happy.
You know something, it’s not the pack that majorly concerns me for once, it’s the outside backs that are weak as mickey. What do Sutcliffe honestly bring to the table? We all know he’s going to start the season in the centre, but I can’t get my head round it.
