Ref : Mon Feb 17, 2020 4:31 pm
Thought yesterdays ref had an excellent match, not sure what his name is but I really liked the way he managed the game. He allowed the match to flow, he was keen and consistent on the head high tackles. He was not pedantic at the play of the ball, he was talking to players who were not square rather than go straight to the whistle, hate it when refs blow up when the ball is away from the ruck for players not been square. He was very good with the holding down and again was telling players to get up and play the ball rather than milk a pen, he didn't go over the top with that silly hand on the ball stuff, plus I thought he did an excellent job with offside, again talking to players rather that going straight to a penalty. As a result the game flowed, I am not sure how many penalties there were but I think it will have well below average.
He also did a good job with the Wood no try, he was in a good position but went to in goal judge to get confirmation of the knock on. From where I was stood I thought the final pass for the Warrington try was forward, on watching the sky highlights the ref got it right. All in all a top job by the ref.

I agree, missed the odd things and allowed a bit to much niggle and offsides from Warrington but I'm a Trin fan so I would say that. For a young lad, he did pretty well against a team who have the worlds number one moaner in Ratchford.

Thought he should have sent the Warrington trainer packing, he spent more time in the line than some of the players, I do hope that does not creep back in.

I thought he was good too. Both sides pushed the off side when on the line but he managed it well.

Refs will always appear better when you win! I personally don’t like to criticise any ref because it’s a really tough job and countless times I’ve seen fans moan and moan and say we’ve been cheated at games then watched the game back and seen it differently!

One thing I thought was in his favour were the conditions probably slowed the game down a little so was arguably a little easier to ref. There was very few offloads in the tackle etc...the pitch was heavy so slowed it down a bit and probably with the conditions there was a sense of looking after the ball a bit more in the tackle

As a result the game seemed to flow a bit better...the big problem for refs is when everything is 100 miles an hour and players are cheating to gain every small edge they can...I didn’t see much of that yesterday and thought he handled the constant questioning from Ratchford very well...

A good performance..

They say if a ref as a good game you do not notice him . The only time I notice him was when the Wires were disputing a penalty that went against them . If we go through the season with that kind of ref will be more than happy

The referee was Marcus Griffiths.

Watched the game on Trinity TV. There appeared to be some confusion when Trinity awarded a scrum, the ref stopped the clock and ordered an injured Warrington player to the to touch line, I think TC said in his commentary, Chester was calling for a penalty because that player retuned to field of play before trinity’s six tackles set was completed. I have to admit I don’t know this rule, anyone got the answer?

Not sure either, he was off for two tackles but it was the touch judge who told him he could go back on.

We should have booted it downfield from the scrum!

Thought he did well. He could have pinged Wire for more offsides and messing around at PTB IMHO, but overall had a good one. But we won, so I suppose I would say that :D

I hope we have nothing to come in the way of suspensions for those head high tackles!
