In the light of the current situation I just wondered if anyone at the Club, or on this platform, is aware of what happens with the players' current contracts? Will they be automatically extended or, should this hiatus last all season could we have lost some of those players' services altogether? if their contracts are due for renewal.
If DC or anyone can put us in the picture I would be grateful.

By the way, where have all the usual contributors to this Forum disappeared to? Perhaps it's the lack of current Trinity topics to discuss.

Thinking legally, it might depend on the wording.

If a contract says "for the duration of two seasons, including 2019 and 2020 and their pre-season periods," it is clear.

If, however, the contracts terminate in November or something, on the basis that is when most contracts start, with it being the beginning of pre-season, it might create an implied term that the contract is for the 2020 season, whenever it ends.

An example of this application would be whether overseas players are obliged to remain in Wakefield until November if the season ends at the end of August due to not making the play-offs. If the contracts ends when the season ends, that should create an implied term that the contract carries on UNTIL the season ends.

The practicalities are maybe, however, is whether you want to play a player who wants to be elsewhere.

The issue for Catalans and Toronto is they are not part of the UK Govt scheme. I can see radical change in the game coming for instance there is no guarantee other countries will see the end of the virus anytime soon so I expect travel restrictions to be in place for quite a while. The overseas clubs may not be part of the future, some interesting times ahead but actually there are other things to worry about more at the current time!

Agree entirely RWB, but you've to try and attempt to carry on normal as you possiby can during this lock down period, I suppose.

The authorities have announced today there will be no mass gatherings in Toronto city until July at the earliest.
