how do people perceive this now, you can win the league with a draw, but you can't win a cup competition normally with a draw. However, as golden point didn't exist per sé what else could the organisers do?

For me, GB beat Australia earlier in the competition and GB were there the better team and the rules were laid out prior to the competition.

The same as the Cricket World Cup (won by a draw effectively). Everyone knew the rules.
