Loving these early diaries Wilf as they bring back so many great memories. I started watching in 45/46 aged 8 and hardly missed a match at the Boulevard until I left Hull in 1960. The 50's were so memorable because of the number of finals we reached. Including the European Cup I believe the number was 10.
Exciting for me was the arrival in the late 40's of the 3 Aussies- first Bruce Ryan followed by George Watt and Duncan Jackson. George Watt was the hooker in the Ashes series in 1946 in Australia which GB won. Had loads of relatives in Aus at the time so it gave me a topic to write about in correspondence.
Brian Darlington was my Gym teacher for the last 2 years I was at high school and he was an even time sprinter. He said that he had developed his leg strength and stamina by including ballet routines as part of his training.
