Wakefield Trinity Stun the Giants With Big Win : Sun May 30, 2021 5:59 pm

Wakefield Trinity Stun the Giants With Big Win

The Huddersfield Giants had their hearts set on sixth spot as they travelled the short distance to take on Wakefield Trinity who were in the market for their second win of the season after a great win ove Hull KR last time out.

The Giants were the favourites to get the win with the bookies, having being given an eight point handicap on the coupon, as they looked to go sixth by overtaking the Castleford Tigers on the league ladder after their Friday night massacre at the hands of the Leeds Rhinos.

These West Yorkshire derbies are often tetchy affairs for which the form book can be torn up and tossed aside, it was an intriguing battle in prospect.

Good stuff. Wakey have hopefully turned a corner now with some big hitters still due back. Pleased for Chester I think he’s had a lot of unwarranted stick.

Totally agree. Another comfortable 2pts for Wakey next week too, and all the best to them. Leigh are in the wrong division, and there are a lot of Leigh fans embarrassed atm. Massive changes need to be made right now to plan for the championship next season. The fans deserve better than this, and it won't change whilst we have a narcissistic owner with a big ego who employs yes men who are out of their depth doing the job.

Leigh are in the Division your rich owner wants to be in.

For Leigh to "plan for the championship next season" they have to be relegated and as it stands Toulouse have to be promoted and there's no guarantee they will have 2 French clubs in SL. No guarantee that SL will be 12, ten has been spoken about regulary. The latter may exclude Leigh unless again the way of getting to the ten doesn't involve relegation but some sort of licensing in which rich owners get the nod over skint clubs like Salford and even Cas.

Now of course Mr. B maybe so determined to be in SL that one season in SL losing probably all but a game or two then straight back down will satisfy him????

Mac out!

Great win for Wakey. They've played well over the last few weeks.

Leigh were always up against it. They had recruited for championship then got promoted on half the money of the other clubs who had already recruited. SL is a big step up. I just hope they will be financially OK for next season and haven't over spent.

They may catch Salford yet!

If Deggsy invests in a couple of quality additions to their squad, they may sneak the few wins that would keep them up.
There's still a hell of a long way to go this season and a couple of "W's" will certainly get them on their way.
One or two big scores coming in, perhaps due do some clubs having an eye on the cup semi finals but, as Trinity have shown, one win can easily lead to two particularly if confidence starts to grow.
It's way too early to write Leigh off.

Well the Leigh squad is apparently a championship one hence they are losing all the time, and no I haven't seen a "couple of quality additions" being added into the Leigh team at all. In contrast Wakefield Trinity are an established Superleague club with a Superleague team and bear no comparison to Leigh. The far better "IF" is if Degsy has been tipped the wink that Toulouse will not be promoted to the top league for 2022 and Leigh will be retained in Superleague. I base this on:-

1. Two years of constant talk about re-booting the league structure under the new and lower TV deal.
2. Degsy not bothering to strengthen the Leigh team despite your reccommendation he does just that

I can't reconcile Superleague constantly pushing 2x10 for 2022 incessantly for the last two years with your view nothing will change?
I can't reconcile Superleague chairmen wanting to continue to share a reduced sky deal 12 ways and send a sixth of the money to our guests in France??

This. You cant blame the Leigh players. They were recruited for the championship.

Leigh is big enough that should they go down, they will come back up at some point.
