Macgillvray and Gildart in a 9s game would be like shooting yourself in the foot imo as they were the poorest players on the field and lucky to be playing in all 3 by the end. Gildart especially was out of his depth (especially in Defence) at centre all series other than one good run to the line he lost the collision far too much and got exposed a number of times .I do appreciate that there were limited options in the centre positions though and I’m sure he will improve over time.
For me we have a massive pool of talented backs who can expose space and it would be criminal not to have these in a 9s comp. So much that I’d look at making a couple of positional changes to fit the likes of Makinson, Johnstone and Manfredi (if he shows consistency over the season) after a good return who. But players like this who can beat 2/3/4 men and score from anywhere on the field are a huge advantage imo. I’d certainly be watching with interest and having never watched a 9s game I’d be excited to see what it’s like.
