IF... I am always in London on the August bank holiday and always stay at student accommodation. https://www.lsevacations.co.uk/home.aspx They are basic rooms with shared facilities (though private are available) and most are all walking distance from Leicester Sq. If you aren't choosy and if you just want a bed for the night and a bit of breakfast in the morning in a school canteen place then High Holborn or Carr-Saunders (Full English) are places I've stayed at and are about as cheap as you can get in London.
