No seriously, in what context was he saying it? That league games are now pointless? That naming squads so soon is pointless?

No his point being that on many occasions this season that come game day there have been people coming into the 17 that were not in the 19. My question though is why is this even a thing and when did it happen that 2 days before a game a preliminary squad is announced.

Posted the response before I’ve just seen the discussion on tonight’s pre match build up they are discussing the 19 man squad situation, it’s actually interesting to hear.

Total waste of time except for provoking debate.
For me either strictly implement the 19 - so that come hell or high water the 17 are chosen from the 19 - even if there's a mass bout of dysentery (!) - or don't bother at all.

I suppose a couple of 'exceptions' during the season could be made in the case of mass illness 24 hours before the match (otherwise it could get messy....), but you would have to question any clubs preparation if it happened more than a couple of times.

So - make it easy - scrap it.

Prime example, Currie returning against Wigan

Perhaps a late addition of Kev Brown parachuting out of Wolfie's aircraft is also on he cards for Sunday , just in time to get bedded in & steer us to a Cup & play off double.

Normally I'd be very much in favour of resting the key players...however we need to go into next week with some confidence as we've been out of sorts against some woeful opposition.

I used to prescribe to that view, but not anymore.

Warrington 56 - 6 Catalans
Catalans 6 - 35 Wigan

Then

Catalans 20 - 14 Warrington

We have a habit of getting up for semi-finals, that'll be no different against Hull. I'd rather go into that game with rested players and take our chances resting a few against Castleford.

Back in 2012 we lost 68-12 at London the week before the CC final. Not sure how many we rested but we certainly only played at about 50% pace and effort.

Then we beat Leeds (in their pomp) in the final the week after.

A fair few were rested; Hodgson, Briers, Monaghen, Carvell, Harrison, Westwood, Higham and the rest played in slow motion. I did wonder if the RFL had a reasonable cause to fine us, but nothing happened.

I believe Saints are fielding a youthful team tomorrow in London & they probably won't need their big hitters next week either. They should be well rested for their visit to us on 9th August.
