And neither would any Lancastrian.

My absolute fave is Hanley v Saints at Wembley in 89.
He cut through about five players without anyone really laying a hand on him and made every one of them look ridiculous.

Sublime.

What about the Henry Paul one where he recovered a goal line drop out and went straight down the middle of the field.

Ellet Hanley for Bradford against Featherstone. Unbelievable try. I can still hear Ray French. he’s still going....and he’s still going.
Fantastic

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Salford v Wigan many many years ago.

Salford drop out from between their posts.
Boston picks the ball up on his own 25 yard line and about 10 yards in from touch, steps right and straightens. He then beats two men just before the halfway line and cuts diagonally towards the posts. What seems like the entire Salford pack await!!
Right foot step, left foot step and accelerate. Somehow he's in the clear with just the fullback waiting, left foot step and the big Billy "see you later" hand off. Ball placed under the posts for an incredible try. The field looks like a war zone, Salford players scattered to the ground.

As Boston walks back the Salford players and crowd applaud him.

Now close your eyes and imagine it.

I was lucky I saw it happen.

I am not biased; I'm not bothered who beats St. Helens.

That's one heck of a drop out from their own line to the opposition 25 yard line. 75 yards with the old style ball. I don't doubt the brilliance of the try Rogues but sometimes the passing of years can blur and exaggerate the memories.

Well, you see it happen; defenders misfield the ball and it runs away behind them.

The Offiah try at Wembley will always be remembered as the best but it wasnt really his best try. He scored a few others that were even better. It was the occasion along with the great commentary from Ray French that made it even more special. The Challenge Cup has never been the same since the old Wembley was knocked down and French retired. The twin towers and Frenchs distinctive voice were both part of the Challenge Cup experience.

The problem was, that towards the end of his career, you were never quite sure which game Ray was commentating on.
