Eribe Doro + Samy Kibula : Wed Jul 22, 2020 4:52 pm
Apparently we've offered new contracts for these 2. I've never seen Eribe play and not sure how big he is. Can anyone shed some light on if they think he's one to watch for the future?
Same with Samy Kibula never saw anything before we signed him and seen nothing since. He a massive lad though and i assume he packs a punch?
With the amount of games we're playing in a short amount of time i've no doubt they'll get first team experience, and hopefully they will both kick on.

The biggest criticism I had of Kibula was his lack of athleticism and heart during his time at Wigan.

I actually said on numerous occasions that I didn’t believe he would ever be a regular first team SL player at a club hoping to compete for trophies.

I understand he has lost a bit of weight whilst at Wire but I’m not certain, just thought I’d heard it somewhere. That in my opinion would be a big help to him.

He has very good hands for a big lad and at the Academy level looked untouchable really though wasn’t impressed when he turned out for Dewsbury on loan, think that sealed his fait at Wigan he just seemed to go missing against the more aggressive opposition.

There is no doubt a potentially very good player there and I’d be interested to see how he has gone at Wire if he had got any games but not sure he will have as he would be too old for Academy rugby now I expect.

From what I saw there was a lot to work on though and I’m not sure he has the work ethic or toughness to achieve his potential.

Yes he lost 2 stone apparently: https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/th ... re-season/

In the short term he was signed for the reserves and due to weather, the unpredictability of reserves fixtures actually taking place or not and then COVID he has had very little game time, a sensible decision for a new deal I would say to see how he goes. With no reserves next season and him turning 21 soon I guess he will be too old for the academy next year, unless you are allowed to play the odd 'over age' player? Time on Dual Reg I assume next season.

On Doro he's always been on the small side for a forward, but seems to play above his weight, looked good coming through the youth team, whether his size will hold him back remains to be seen.

Kibula - had a good performance or two for Swinton after not really doing much at Dewsbury. Playing against grown men seemed to be a shock to the system at first. The ball boy incident didn't do him any favours. Hope he gets it together, he won't always be a man amongst boys at SL level, which is what took him this far.

Having seen both in recent games, I was more impressed with Kibula.

With our 2 main props both into their 30's now and our apparent inability to sign rated props it would be useful if at least one of these guy 'came through'

Kibula

Not that many large sized juniors seem to make the jump to SL. Its just IMO, but I believe they are used to making ground / scoring tries simply because of their size. That means they don't learn the need to use footwork to change their line of attack, pump with the legs when held, spiral out of the tackle, fight off the markers, protect their legs from the third man in etc etc. All the stuff that we would see from eg Benny Westwood in the latter part of his career. Unfortunately Samy seems to fall exactly into this category when I watched him in the Reserve matches, so I don't see him as SL standard.

Doro

Eribe is a bit under 6' I believe, that's 4 inches smaller than big Samy. But their weights are not that far apart because Doro is pretty much solid muscle. He too looked impressive when playing U16 ( England Youth) where he seemed to completely block the middle to the opposition attack. At U19 he was a bit unlucky with injuries and probably only played half a year in both of his two seasons, but still looked impressive and racked up more than his fair share of tries. I think the jump to SL from U19 is really big and you can see that because of the small number of promising juniors that come through, but he has got what it takes to make the grade imo. I think his challenge however will be to show the determination and dedication that Josh Thewliss brings to his game.

Interesting comments WO, and as Railwayman hopes, I too would like to see one of them come through.

I think Kibula will come good for us, he's a big dude with good ball handling Skills, and he's still very young so got plenty of time to develop these skills.
He reminds me size wise of Petero Civoniceva, now i'm not saying he's gonna turn in to a legend like him but i think he has the attributes to do very well given time and investment. So i have my fingers crossed.
Doro i didn't see very much from but it was a very defense orientated game from both sides so nobody got to show anything special. But he defended well and aggressively from what i saw :-)
