Agreed, Ashton isn't as good a prospect at full back as Josh Thewlis. Ashton in attack is excellent at times with his support running and eye for opportunity but he's not as good defensively as thewlis. Ashton is a winger IMO.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

I have been lucky to work with the Academy for the past 12 seasons and in that time we have had some cracking prospects coming through.

I would never say somebody would make it just for the sake of it but Josh Thewlis, Connor Wrench and Ellis Longstaff have the potential to have very long and successful careers in Super League and hopefully that will be with Warrington.

The displays last night from Thewlis and Wrench belied their tender years; they will make mistakes in games as everybody does do but they need encouraging in those times.

Seeing Connor play so well is a double delight for me with my Woolston Rovers hat on!!!

Hw do you rate Riley Dean Walter? Wrench I wasn't sure about until last night but it looked to me that Dean, longstaff and especially Thewlis were going to make it when they played last season.

I rate him and think he has a chance of making it here, just needs the opportunity. He hasn’t let us down when he has played so would definitely recommend him

I too would like to see Dean given a chance. I can't remember the last time I've felt so enthusiastic about our academy prospects, especially now they'll be working with Powell. Thewlis looks outstanding, Wrench and Longstaff look very good. Robson and Doro have looked solid if not spectacular. On the occasions that Dean has played I've been impressed, so maybe he'll get his chance next year depending on what happens with Widdop.

Paul Anderson working with our youth a coincidence with a good crop or are they mentally and physically better prepared than previous academy products? Whatever it is I agree with you they seem more ready that anyone since Currie.

I think it's almost certainly Anderson, and also whatever changes Price said he was putting in place in to make the transition more like the NRL system (what that means I don't actually know but maybe WalterWizard does!).

It's exactly that, it's cap management and where you want your money to be spent. To be fair we have both Lineham and Charnley who i expect are on good money. Ashton comes in for Lineham and we use the kids as backup. Freeing up space in the cap for elsewhere in the team/squad.

Whether we agree with it or not i understand the rationale behind it.

If this is indeed the case then I personally would rather we lost Charnley

Me too, it's probably down to whose contract expires first.

It will be interesting to see where he goes a return to hull ? Maybe Wigan with manfredi retiring?

He will leave some big boots to fill in not sold on it being cap restrictions if we're rumoured to be interested in Tom Davies then he will be looking at similar money now. It shows there's still some uncertainty on Ashton if we're looking at Davies with Ashton to replace Charley.after another year ?
