So Lannon got nothing for the late hit and for punching yet Gale gets 2 for Hicks missing the late shot.
No idea when Mellor touched up Hicks
Utterly ridiculous

Just watched it back. After Thompson and everyone else comes steaming in Briscoe half runs in to Hicks who has to check himself, and then Mellor literally does the same thing straight after. Think the reason Mellors was a ban and Briscoes not is cos he had his elbow raised as he hits Hicks’ back.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Yes, that makes sense.
Another ban arising from idiotic behaviour - they were so keen to get to a brawl they run into the referee to get to it. Lucky it's not more games given past precedent.

Mason on Fielden in 2006 is up there with the best punches landed. It pretty much ended Fielden's career as a top level prop.
That was as big a cheap shot as there ever was. Got very lucky he landed right place on an unexpecting victim. And it didn't end Fielden's career either. Went on to plenty of success at Wigan.....

He was never the same player after that incident. He went from being one of the best props in the world, to barely making the England squad almost overnight.

Cheap shot how? They were sqaured up, Fielden pulled his fist back, Mason slotted him.

Spot on. They squared up and Mason laid him out. That's not a cheap shot!!!
And I agree with Jack - Fielden was never the same player after that.
He was feared when he was at Bradford. He never was at Wigan.
