Disappointing England Beat France After Great Start

Once the gnashing of teeth over the postponement of the 2021 World Cup died down, little time was wasted in organising a one-off match between France and England in Perpignan, a double header with a women's international between the same two sides.
Shaun Wane took charge of his side for just the second time, if you count the game against the Combined Nations, as they took on a French side who haven't beaten England for three decades.
French rugby league is certainly on the up and up following the brilliant seasons from the Catalans Dragons and Toulouse Olympique XIII, and hopes were high locally that they might spring a surprise on the favourites as Wane blooded several new caps.

I think the world cup being delayed 12 months is better for England. On that showing I think Aus, NZ and Tonga would beat England no problem.

What do you expect when Wane picked his mates instead of far better players?

Realistically how many of those players will be in the starting line up for the WC?

We’ve got the entire NRL contingent plus to name bit a few Sam T, Newman, Percival, Gildart, Johnston, Williams, Gale, Bentley all injured who would be in contention.

That game was a good exercise but by no means a barometer to measure the England team by.

Very good post indeed. It was a comfortable win with players who had not played together much for some time.

Yet some people are already forecasting great things for French RL including ultimately an Anglo French league.

That's fine by me unless they really do mean it......and that can only happen if French sports TV bosses watched the game, and looked at the crowd, and then felt there would be mileage in pouring Millions of Euro's into French RL........

This game helped both sides get something together for the World cup.
