Re: Challenge Cup R4. Fax v Hammersmith HH. : Sat Feb 24, 2024 9:26 pm
Bit of a non-event - worryingly win could have come at a big cost with what looked like serious injuries to 3 of our most important players in Crookes,Calcott and O'brien. Calcott looked easily our best forward, before his injury, lousy timing if its as bad as it looked, with Murray leaving this week. I like Inman for his enthusiasm, but his distribution from dummy half at the start of the game was awful - our attack looked loads better once O'brien came on. Difficult to make judgements on players brought in because opposition while totally committed were limited. That said thought Walters really put himself about and looks promising, also thought Olly Davies showed some nice touches. Obviously very early days in Widdops Halifax career but at the moment Keyes Jouffret and JWH would get in ahead of him for me .

Sounds like Calcott could be a broken knee cap and Crooks a broken foot. Disaster if true for Calcott and would be his season over. Crookes would be touch and go depending on the location of the break. Not heard anything else on Obrien other than feared torn bicept. Leaves us desperatly thin on troops now before the season has even started proper. To lose 3 of our best players in a nothing game is awful luck.

Spirited performance by hills hoist and an average at best performance by fax . I would much prefer them to try and complete the sets and put in a kick than trying to score off play one and two , our completion rate and territory game needs to improve as better teams will punish us and it could be a long season. Obviously the injury front is worrying calcott, crookes ,Douglas , obrien and the departure of Murray leaves us with not enough players to name a 21 man squad.

Well.... If both long- term;
McComb or WBH to centre
Scrapping the barrel with Props now ; Tangata, Lannon, Larroyer - Surely they didn't get rid of Murray without an incoming. Not sure how long on Douglas.

Firstly a good effort from Hammersmith they kept going to the end and seemed to get better as the game went on which for a amature side is good going. Unfortunately for them some of their fans when they entered the south stand started shouting in the faces of faxs fans this could of caused trouble not that the stewards was interested. As for us that was a terrible game if we had started like a house on fire and then dropped off fair enough but we never looked interested right from the start. Bad old habits like going side to side instead of earning the right to by doing the hard work up the middle first. Surely we can take a amature side on up front instead we treated it like a game of touch and pass. And then the injuries flipping heck they was going down right left and centre Calcott and Crooks who is our only centre both looking like bad injuries O'briens bicep and Lannon hobbling about. Happy to get that one out of the way but our performances which as far as yesterday is concerned is down to attitude need to show some sign of improvement because so far we look disjointed and some of the players instead of doing the hard work are looking for a easy way out.

The whinos have a big squad and 3 good hookers so at least AOB should be covered re DR with Ackers (we wish!), Johnson or OConnor

Saw Lannon after game, was a bit of a dead leg so nothing too serious and in his own words he blamed his "skinny legs"

Is'nt Connor Davies a hooker anyway ? Havent worked out where he's meant to fit in yet(loose ?) certainly not a second row IMO..

His brother Curtis is the hooker, Connor is a loose.

I got shot down for suggesting this before, but I'm sure Jouffret used to play hooker and I remember him running rings round us when he played for Batley and I'm sure he was hooker. OK,some would argue he's too small from a defence point of view, but Salford's Bourouh copes OK and Jouffret would be a right handful around the ruck. .

Would also mean a Widdop/Keyes half back partnership.
