I think one question ought to be asked as well - how come Britain has such a dreadful, toxic tabloid print media? There is nothing like it at all here - the tabloid stuff lives on supposed 'current affairs' shows on TV (including the imaginatively named "A Current Affair"). The TV shows' popularity suggests that there's an appetite for salacious gossip and the like. So why no printed tabloids here? Why does the UK have such a roll call of tabloid dreadfuls, almost unique in the world - at least in terms of scale of their readership?

We honestly don't know because whenever you ask anyone if they read any of the bollax-sheets they'll deny it outright.

As well as the dailycrap there are the weekly "TV" magazines which frankly are an outrageous drain on world resources, should be banned by government and in the main have women in general as their principal target market.

Its womens fault.

"You are working for Satan." Kirkstaller

"Dare to know!" Immanuel Kant

"Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive" Elbert Hubbard

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." Oscar Wilde

The Voluptuous Manifesto – thoughts on all sorts of stuff.

An interesting point I read recently, in an article about the Wail for the New Yorker: that the US has a pretty sober print media but a shrill TV one, and the UK is pretty much the other way around.

Nut on the gossip rags – I absolutely cannot get my head around the explosion in this utter crap. And the number of people who are apparently intelligent. I know several women who are intelligent and articulate and educated and knowledgeable on current affairs etc, and yet these things are the sort of stuff they buy to read in their hotel room when away on business.

I couldn't even do that. Perhaps it's some sort of female gene that I completely missing.

If I could reconstitute wood from the TV and Fashion magazines that litter our house every week then I'd be able to build at least one Giant Redwood every month - just for starters my eldest has every issue of Vogue still saved since she started collecting them when she was 8 years old, she's 24 this year - and that includes some from the USA and France (which are different issues).

The youngest one did a college course on Fashion Retail for a couple of years and the college were desperate to get their hands on the Vogue magazines for their "History of Fashion" library - thats how crazy that whole industry is, a young girls magazine collection can become important history within a few years, they are mad, all of them.

Or maybe its just me ?

At least the bit I'm in aren't going to get in bother. Our 'news' is all recycled press releases, quotes from agents and verbatim transcripts of Arry Redknapp's pressers.
