Watched Pirates4 with the kids yesterday. Very weak. Lots of characters and some kind of story but the whole thing just didn't work very well. Part of the problem was that the 'terrifying' Blackbeard was a wuss in the end.

Now I'm sure a lot of people have heard about Terrance Mallick's new film The Tree of Life, and how mind blowingly amazing it is. Now I'm a big fan of his previous films, The Thin Red Line inparticular, however I found The Tree of Life to be 2 and half hours of pointless style over substance. It has some really mezmerising visuals and is almost hypnotic at times, but I was unable to grasp what the plot or the point of it was, it just didn't make sense to me.

I was really looking forward to this but having read alot of the reviews it sounds very much like you describe. It just sounds boring....

Hi Andy

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

I've just seen Harry Potter 7 part 2.

I'm glad I've read the books or I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on!

It all felt a bit rushed and far to many one liners.

I love it. The Thin Red Line is the least interesting of his films for me and Tree Of Life, I will go so far to say is his best but I thought The New World was brilliant and his best before this. Both are quite abstract and although it's a bit more straightforward, Tree Of Life (i.e. the clue is in the title), I loved it and found it quite emotional at times. The cinematography was incredible and that first hour was just mesmerising and had me thinking, finally a film that makes 2001 look dated.

Blue Valentine, a very compelling and understated film. Excellent performances from Gosling and Williams.

The Resident was average and easily missable.

Animal Kingdom, cracking film! Full of intensity, menace and brutality. Loved it. Couple of RL loolalikes too T Briscoe and G Bird.

I saw it on saturday. Clearly I'm not enough of an abstract, deep thinker, because I thought it was pretentious, self-indulgent crap.

I thought it was great, and the pacing of it good too. I've read the book, and resisted the remptation to read it again before watching the film. It let me go into the film not wanting to match the book up to what was going on on screen.

The unexpected bonus yesterday was the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Not a huge amount of footage, but the most striking was a concerned looking Batman as Bane approaches...

Took the kids to see it yesterday. They enjoyed it, I guess that's the main thing. How adults could I will never know.

Only comment I would make was that I thought it was far too violent - not required. The films have gotten more violent (and I don't mean "dark" - you can make something dark without making it violent). I haven't read the books but I'm thinking Rowling originally wrote for children but changed over the years as it was obvious adults were reading the books more than kids.

Laugh out loud moment was the ending - Harry and Ron really don't age well. Fat, Ginger and Forty (I know all about that).
