What is your definition of initial ?

As this is clear evidence that we are looking at least 2 to 3 years of low growth and even a recession in three years.

That would take a couple of years to get out of.

Is five years initial crash

That's more downturn than crash. Semantics, I know. And I agree, it'll be prolonged (though the amount attributable to this will be difficult to measure).

Revolutions generally end in disappointment. And that will be inevitable and immediate for lots of Leave voters, when they see the extent and direction of the changes.

Still, at least it'll be British fists, eh?

I agree about the semantic definition but the Brexiters gave the impression as does yed that there will, be an initial crash then we will find the land of milk and honey.

Unfortunately there will be a lot of time in the wilderness before we come out the other side.

We will just enquire if we go back in again in fifty years .... assuming the EU still exists and there is still mankind.

A sad day

im under 35 and voted leave

maybe the older generation remember what it used to be like to live in this country compared to what it is now....also what the failing EU became was also not what they voted for, i salute the older generation for once giving my generation a chance.

would you believe that westminter, chelsea and the city of london were among the highest percentage votes to remain... hmm they dont live in the real world :ASK:

Someone else who knows what I'm thinking

Seriously i have been extremely civil, both here and in other places and I'm constantly being told by people the reason i voted were x
I think y
I support z

I'm done with it absolutely done, i have no doubt and under no illusion that some very unsavoury people also voted out, but to be accused of being a xenophobic racist rightwinger is laughable.

I'm a fkin hummus eating vegetarian Green party supporter ffs but because i don't like the EU system I'm somehow on the wrong side of this amazing moral compass the Remainers have, now I'm getting some hessian wearing dreadlocked fk nugget calling me a fascist even though I voted against the EU because it is inherently undemocratic....you couldn't make this stuff up

Apology accepted.

I oppose the EU from a much further left wing position than you.

BUT

The options we faced by leaving economically

AND

the tone of the debate (immigrants)

Have potentially set the country down a very dangerous route.

I also don't think that people are saying that all leavers are racists and xenophobia

BUT

It is clear that many were persuaded by racist arguments .

Go back and look at the number of interviews on Tv about why people were leaving especially in working class areas and the issue they wanted too deal with was. immigrants.

The leave campaign was very very clever. Farage acting like goeebels pushing the racist xenophobic little englanders agenda appealing to the disenfranchised voters that labour has ignored for 30 years whilst the respectable leavers talking about some high faulting notions of sovereignty appealed to the Tory shires.

If you really want to talk about getting our country back from unelected, unsociable beauracrats why was no one talking about those multinational entities that don't pay the taxes they should which could be used to fund the nhs like the banks, Amazon and Google.

By giving them free reign we are surrendering our sovereignty ina far worse way than economic union in the EU does.

So who will be our next PM and how are they going to balance the conflicting interests within our fractured society? Boris Johnson has blown things. He expected and hoped to lose and then win the Tory party election for leadership from the Euroscepric party faithful because he'd stood on Leave platform previously. Now if he gets the job he won't have a successful premiership / legacy as he'll be sorting out the exit. BoJo biggest loser here. Expect May to be PM but she'll be a disaster.

Re: Brexit Anyone? : Sat Jun 25, 2016 5:32 pm
I consider myself a young(ish) voter, and I voted to leave. Calling anyone who voted to leave a racist, or xenophobe is exactly why we're in this situation. There has been a large minority of anti eu, anti-immigration sentiment in this country for a long time, and instead of addressing this with a legitimate, reasoned debate, these people were arrogantly dismissed by the political elite, and the regressive left. Now the crazies on the right of the Tory party now have a genuine mandate to push their agenda. Frankly, I would like to see an end to the whole EU project, and the (non) free trade agreements that underpin it, and consolidate the power of corporations, and bureaucrats.

Now if Corbyn had stuck to his principles instead of pandering to the dogmatic Blairites and backed the leave camp he could've shifted the debate away from immigration, and not alienated many of the 18-30 voters who got him elected in the first place. and he'd have been in a strong position to challenge the Torries.

I see 'Lord' Hill has resigned as the UK EU commissioner. I wonder how many people knew who he was before today? It's another example of the opaque undemocratic nature of the EU. The EU Commissioner is one of the most powerful, and important positions within the EU, yet it's a position given to a peer, selected by other peers.

A prolonged period of uncertainty is inevitable, but to say that we're doomed economically is a gross exaggeration. It's not as if the EU is a economic utopia. It's more resembling of a dystopia in terms of economic fundamentals. In fact as we've seen in Greece, the EU are more concerned about making an example of a member nation for making a fool of them than it is with enduring they make the economically correct choices that would benefit not just Greece, but the whole EU project. I don't think it's the kind of organisation we should be throwing our weight behind.
