Spirit of 1895 - Campaign and Protest Update : Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:54 pm
Good evening to everybody. Last night we held our public meeting to discuss matters after the press release we issued and with a view of forming the early stages of a working party to take this forward. We successfully did this and decided the Campaign / Group will be called "The Spirit of 1895" named after the forefathers who gave us Rugby League all this years ago.
We feel that the RFL has turned it's back on the clubs of both Championship leagues and constantly fails the clubs, players and fans of this great competition. We crave equality and more importantly transparency and have many questions concerning everything from funding for grassroots and scholarships through to developing a transparent franchising process or P&R. No longer can the RFL use Championship clubs to validate it's own processes and inadequacies. These are all things we think each club should want answers for and a lot more. We hope to entice and welcome members to the Spirit of 1895 by showing our intentions are to protect and enhance the way that Championship clubs are treated by the RFL. Why should our leagues be the forgotten leagues of rugby and treated by the governing body as a 2nd rate competition that can be stroked and caressed by the RFL when it feels like it?? Then put away for another 3 years. We intend to ask many questions and importantly be self funded. We will issue more info as we evolve but need all Halifax RLFC fans and rugby supporters from each club to show support for us and The spirit in which our founders formed the sport we all love today. Our first protest is to turn our back on the RFL as it has on the championship clubs for the first minute of the Halifax v Widnes game. The end of the minute will be signalled once completed. Basically on the kick off whistle we want all fans to adopt a minutes silence with their backs to the game. A protest we hope will be continued at other games and hopefully a grand gesture at the Grand Final when 4 Championship clubs come together. We have ordered 50 T-Shirts with the slogan RFL which then appears to be stamped FAIL. We are looking to sell these for between £3.50 - £5. This is just the start and we will be heard so please support us and turn your back on the RFL. The players will be aware of our actions too. Any questions PM me or email chris_smith1975@hotmail.co.uk |
